Air fryer chicken wings

Super Bowl Sunday has come and gone but I’m still thinking about those chicken wings I made in my air fryer. (Yes, I’m still in love with my air fryer and I think everyone should get one.) I love buffalo wings but I don’t like the fried aspect behind it. I’m always trying to find ways to make things a little bit healthier for my life so I thought I would try buffalo wings for the big day.

I’ve been craving wings for a long time but I just don’t want to go out to get them.  I’m not sure if it’s worth it for my cheat meal.  But there’s not like a good beer and some buffalo wings to watch the biggest football game of the year, right?

I didn’t do anything really fancy for my wings but I want to share my chicken wing air fryer experience.  I haven’t cooked a lot of meats in my air fryer and when I have it’s been chicken breast.  The air fryer does dry out the chicken breast and I didn’t know if it was going to do that with the wings.  I used wings and drumettes and I tried to trim as much of the skin off as I could. The skin is where all the fat and calories live.

I did marinate the wings in low-fat buttermilk overnight just to make sure the wings weren’t too dry. It’s just a marinade and you end up throwing most of it out anyway.

Air fryer

Now, this is where I’m going to show I wasn’t fancy.  I used McCormick spice packets to season in a bag and I put the wings in the air fryer for 22 minutes. I made four batches of wings so I was at it for a little more than an hour.

The wings looked pretty good without the sauce.

After the wings were cooked, I shook them in a container with the buffalo or parmesan garlic sauce.  I don’t recommend shaking though.  It worked much better when I used the spin method.  I was actually surprised at how little sauce I used.  I made a lot of wings and I think I only used 4 tablespoons of each sauce.  Some people like their wings saucy, so you might want to use more than I did.

Air fryer

I also used premade sauces which I didn’t mind because I didn’t use that much.  Sometimes it’s just better to take the shortcut. What I love about the air fryer is all the fat falls below the basket so your food isn’t sitting in fat.  It’s definitely a calorie saving but not sacrificing the flavor investment.

In the end, I didn’t eat that much because I spent a big chunk of time making the wings.  If I had a bigger air fryer, this wouldn’t have been a problem.  There are bigger air fryers on the market now, but I usually don’t make this large amount of food.

The wings turned out great though.  I could have done a better job of trimming the fat. The wings tasted like something you would get at a restaurant and were crispy. I think this is a great way to enjoy the wings you love without having all the fried fat. Just remember to spin the wings and not shake them and enjoy it all!

Do you like buffalo wings as much as me?  Are you traditional or do you enjoy other sauces?

There’s nothing holding you back

There’s nothing holding you back

Happy Monday!  It’s time to kick start the week and make something happen.  I’m a huge sports person and watching sports gives me warm fuzzy feelings.  Last night was the Super Bowl and the winter Olympics are coming up.  I’m filled with all kinds of warm feelings on the inside.  I don’t think I’ve ever made it through an Olympic game without shedding some tears.  Just knowing people worked so hard to achieve their dreams and they finally made it without even standing on the podium is enough to move me.  But when I see a medal ceremony, it’s hard…

Do not stop the journey

Do not stop the journey

Good morning, everyone!  I wanted to start off by saying an apology for leaving the blog bare for so long.  It’s been a week and that’s not for lack of wanting to blog, it’s poor time management.  The to-do list is long and the blog is always the last thing on the list.  The blog is going to be a priority for me in 2018 because it’s something I love to do.  I will better manage my time and get the job done. This is a perfect segway into my topic today about carrying on no matter how long it…

Got weight loss goals?

Got weight loss goals?

It’s the new year and everyone is looking for those posts about achieving weight loss goals.  I’m going to go back to my roots to talk about what started it all, weight loss. My weight loss journey started back on January 6, 2011. I weighed 338 pounds, which I think was my heaviest weight.  I couldn’t be too sure because I never stepped on a scale until the day I started my weight loss journey. Now it’s 2019 and I’ve managed not to gain my weight back.  My biggest weight gain was from pregnancy, but I’m glad to say I’m…

It’s a new year

It’s a new year

I’m not too late to send my New Years message into the universe. There may only be a few hours left on January 1, 2018, but I’m going to get this message out there. I’ve been doing this blogging thing for a long time now and this day in the blogosphere is dedicated to people talking about their goals. It’s a new year, a clean slate. Really, did we all wake up and 2017 disappeared from the world? It doesn’t exactly work like that and it’s ok. As those days tick by we are learning things about ourselves, we are…

Make life happen

Make life happen

I know I haven’t been blogging and that’s on me. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been here, I just haven’t made blogging a priority when I know I should. I’ve had some tough moments this year and I let some things slip away from me. I may have created a bad habit of complaining instead of acting. I haven’t been practicing the things I say on the blog. The past two weeks I’ve been focusing on change and I’ve come to a conclusion. Make life happen. There is a lesson learned in every situation. There is glory in the journey.…

Find your passion

Find your passion

The other day I did a Facebook Live to answer questions about weight loss and what not.  If you missed it, I’m sorry but you can go back to watch it.  Someone asked a question about my motivation to keep going and answered about beginning with the end in mind.  This got me thinking a little deeper about what motivates me to do what I do. I found my passions. It’s easy to be motivated when I found something that I love to do.  I fell in love with running and it gave me something to work towards.  Running gave…

That time I burned crockpot lasagna

That time I burned crockpot lasagna

I love making stuff in the crockpot because it’s a great way to get a home cooked meal without all the fuss.  That was until I decided I was going to make crockpot lasagna. I was intrigued when I was fell down the rabbit hole of Pinterest and found a crock pot veggie lasagna recipe. The great thing about the crockpot is setting and forgetting, but this time I feel like it was a little too much work. I was highly skeptical on Sunday while I was making this. I even posted on Instagram stories I wasn’t sure I would be…

Starting the weight loss journey is the hardest part

People often ask me what was/is the hardest part of the weight loss journey.  Sometimes I want to say, “keeping the weight off” and that is true, but the hardest part is really just getting started. If you are ready for your weight loss journey it is important to take the steps.  I wanted to lose the weight many times before I actually did.  Do you know what the biggest difference was the last time?  I actually took the steps to make it happen. I would always think about what life would be life if I lost the weight.  I…
