It’s a new year

I’m not too late to send my New Years message into the universe. There may only be a few hours left on January 1, 2018, but I’m going to get this message out there. I’ve been doing this blogging thing for a long time now and this day in the blogosphere is dedicated to people talking about their goals.

It’s a new year, a clean slate. Really, did we all wake up and 2017 disappeared from the world? It doesn’t exactly work like that and it’s ok. As those days tick by we are learning things about ourselves, we are facing challenges, and just making it through life.

2017 was filled with lessons we should carry over into to 2018. We need to use those lessons of last year to jumpstart the new year. A new year doesn’t mean a new you, but it is a chance to do new things, to grow, to learn, and to change. Believe me, there are plenty of things I wish I could leave behind in the new year, but those things are the foundation of what my 2018 will be. The happy, the sad, the struggle, the pain are the reasons why I choose to start something NEW in the new year. Those are the reasons why I want to continue to improve, endure, and conquer life in 2018.

I encourage everyone to set short and long-term goals. I encourage people to look at this day as the first day of a new adventure. Today is not the ending of something, it’s just a continuing of improvement and understanding.

I’m not going to get into my goals in this post, but this post isn’t about me. This post is about helping you form your goals and what the foundation of your goals should be. And it’s okay to have several goals. You can want to work on more than one thing at a time, but you don’t need to tackle too many things where things get lost in the shuffle. We set goals so that we can achieve them and feel a sense of journey and accomplishment.

I simply don’t want you to forget where you came from in the new year. It doesn’t all just go away. It’s apart of us to build you into a better person (if that is what you’re searching for in life). Sometimes, I think there might be too much pressure to leave everything behind you and start anew in the new year and life doesn’t work like that. You can carry those things with you in the new year to fuel your new adventures and accomplishments.

And most importantly, set your goals for you and no one else. You may find help and encouragement along the way, but these goals are for you. Be happier for yourself, lose weight for yourself, run a marathon for yourself, or just be healthier for yourself.

Tell me what your goals are for the new year.  Happy New Year!

Monday Motivation: Take the challenge

Monday Motivation: Take the challenge

Happy Monday everyone!  I’ve been trying to catch up on blog business so I can get back to do what I love.  It’s been a life-changing year for me and just when I thought I have my crap together, something else pops up. It’s all been a challenge but that’s what life is about, right? I encourage everyone to take on the challenge.  Don’t let the challenge knock you down.  Face it head on, tackle the challenge, and overcome the challenge. There are plenty of people out there in the world who tell say, “you shouldn’t, you can’t, you don’t have…

Make life happen

Make life happen

I know I haven’t been blogging and that’s on me. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been here, I just haven’t made blogging a priority when I know I should. I’ve had some tough moments this year and I let some things slip away from me. I may have created a bad habit of complaining instead of acting. I haven’t been practicing the things I say on the blog. The past two weeks I’ve been focusing on change and I’ve come to a conclusion. Make life happen. There is a lesson learned in every situation. There is glory in the journey.…

Find your passion

Find your passion

The other day I did a Facebook Live to answer questions about weight loss and what not.  If you missed it, I’m sorry but you can go back to watch it.  Someone asked a question about my motivation to keep going and answered about beginning with the end in mind.  This got me thinking a little deeper about what motivates me to do what I do. I found my passions. It’s easy to be motivated when I found something that I love to do.  I fell in love with running and it gave me something to work towards.  Running gave…

That time I burned crockpot lasagna

That time I burned crockpot lasagna

I love making stuff in the crockpot because it’s a great way to get a home cooked meal without all the fuss.  That was until I decided I was going to make crockpot lasagna. I was intrigued when I was fell down the rabbit hole of Pinterest and found a crock pot veggie lasagna recipe. The great thing about the crockpot is setting and forgetting, but this time I feel like it was a little too much work. I was highly skeptical on Sunday while I was making this. I even posted on Instagram stories I wasn’t sure I would be…

Starting the weight loss journey is the hardest …

Starting the weight loss journey is the hardest part

People often ask me what was/is the hardest part of the weight loss journey.  Sometimes I want to say, “keeping the weight off” and that is true, but the hardest part is really just getting started. If you are ready for your weight loss journey it is important to take the steps.  I wanted to lose the weight many times before I actually did.  Do you know what the biggest difference was the last time?  I actually took the steps to make it happen. I would always think about what life would be life if I lost the weight.  I…

Meal prep this week: Maple Dijon chicken

Meal prep this week: Maple Dijon chicken

I haven’t really been talking about my meal prep on the blog lately. I know it’s bad because people want to know about the meal prep. I haven’t really talked about meal prep in a long time but that doesn’t mean I’m not doing it. Meal prep has become a little less high maintenance these days, but it’s still getting done. I’m not fancy. I don’t create recipes on my own. If I’m doing some creating, I’m just throwing stuff together we have in the fridge and making it work. There’s nothing creative happening in my kitchen. I know the…

Don’t let a one-upper steal your shine

Don’t let a one-upper steal your shine

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone is starting off their week off right.  Monday is a time to start anew and set new goals.  This is your moment, don’t waste it. Today I wanted to talk to you about the one-upper.  I don’t know how to exactly phrase this to you so I’m hoping you will understand. Don’t let these people get you down. Beware of the one-uppers in your life.  The people who are always trying to get the last word.  The people who are always trying to do you one better.  Sometimes it seems like those people are just…

The portion control dilemma

The portion control dilemma

Last week I posted about how I’m not really counting calories to lose weight.  This week I thought I would try something out to see how it goes. I always say that portion control is key to any weight loss plan and I was looking for ways to help. I bought these generic 21-day fix containers on Amazon for $8 and I thought I would give it a try. Sometimes you can’t always weigh out your food or sometimes you just don’t want to do all that.  I have always been curious about the containers and how they worked.  Maybe…

Why I don’t track my food anymore

Why I don’t track my food anymore

I know I’ve talked about how we tracked our food using Lose It! to lose weight the first time around. It was completely helpful and a good tool for me at the time. But I had to step away from tracking my food because even after I hit my weight loss goal I was tracking my food the same way. It became a very serious part of my life that I became too neurotic about. No lie, I would hit my calories for the day and feel guilty about being hungry. It took me a long time to transition from…

Better than yesterday

Better than yesterday

Happy Monday, y’all! It’s been a minute since I hit the blog because I am trying to get things moving in the right direction. Which is exactly what I want to talk about today: being better than yesterday. That is my motto. That phrase is the thing that gets me up in the morning and motivated in my daily pursuits. Even if it’s just a fraction of change, I want to be better than yesterday. Yesterday, I ran a 10K. I had high hopes for this race, but it didn’t work for me. I thought it was going to rain…
