Five Things Friday: self care edition

Happy Friday!  It’s late on Friday but this is the first time I’ve been able to sit down and blog.  Maybe I should have got this post going when I up at 2 am this morning because I couldn’t sleep.  Anyway, I am here blogging about my Friday favorites.

This week has been pretty good for me.  I managed to hit my workouts and did a double workout yesterday (because I missed my run on Wednesday).  All I have to say is, I’m too old for the double workouts, lol.  It’s something I use to do all the time but I just haven’t built myself back to that point yet. Plus, I’m a little sick and I have something I can’t shake which has made working out even harder.

I just know I have to get up in the mornings to get my workout done.  If I don’t, I end up working out with my baby which isn’t bad but it’s a little distracting sometimes.  It’s just another way to get extra cardio.

This weekend is my birthday weekend so I’m sure there will be lots of things creeping up on my Instagram stories.  If you don’t follow me, you totally should.  I post way too much about my baby on my stories but I’m always a good time.

Enough of the small talk, let’s get to the five things Friday. I’ve been wanting to do a week on self-care on the blog but I haven’t really planned it out but this will just be a sneak peek into that series.

I am a huge fan of the Bath and Body Works aromatheraphy line. I love this stuff that I buy it in bulk when it’s onsale. They had a sale last week so I stocked up on my favorites. My favorite is orange ginger energy so I probably have too much of that in my stock pile. It just wakes me up and smells so good.  Can you tell I’m a fan of the sleep stuff too?  Lavender is magical in calming but I’ve only ever used the lavender vanilla.  I thought I should branch out and try the lavender chamomile this time around.  I’ll let you know how it works out and if it puts me to sleep.

You may or may not know, but I love tatar tots. I love making them in the air fryer and going to town. People always ask if I gave up potatoes or anything like during weight loss. I did not. I love potatoes. I just gave up the greasy, double fried version. My tot obsession has been a little strong lately so I thought I should try something different. I got these Alexia sweet potato puffs. Yes, they are puffs because they are light and airy and half the size of a tot. These things cook up soo good in the air fryer. It’s amazing. I recommend these for you to try. I can’t get enough.

I love oatmeal soap.  I don’t know why.  Maybe because it always smells good or it’s just a great moisturizing thing.  I first discovered this thing called oatmeal soap at a farmer’s market in austin years and years ago.  It wasn’t something I could find regularly where I lived so I would buy it off the internet.  Now I can just go to Walgreens to buy it. Ology (a Walgreens brand) is budget friendly and is just as worthy as other brands.

I had no intentions of trying this popcorn but it was on sale when I was shopping for other items. I can never pass up a sale item. I’ve never had it before but everyone says it is good. I’ve been warned that it will be addictive and I should try all the flavors. I settled on these two because it seemed basic enough to determine whether or not it is a product that I will enjoy.

Lastly, I’ve been enjoying my treadmill running lately.  It used to bug the crap out of me but it’s been a comforting thing for me lately.  It’s been raining a lot lately, so I know I can always get my run in.  It’s hot outside and running on the treadmill doesn’t give me an excuse not to run.  I’ve been working on my pace, so running on the treadmill has kind of been therapeutic to me.  It’s built my running confidence.  I also have to sport this LL Cool J look while running on the mill because my pants interfere with my leg movement.

That’s my Five Things Friday.  What things are you digging this week?

Global running day confession

Global running day confession

Happy Global Running Day! It’s the day where the entire world celebrates running and goes for a run. It’s been a long day and that is why this post is late. I didn’t think I was going to be able to get any miles in today but I made it work. I got those miles in late, so now I’m wired and not sleepy at all. That’s no good because I have to get up early to teach my class. Y’all know that I love running and I could share the reasons why I love running with you but you’ve…

Better than yesterday

Better than yesterday

Happy Monday, y’all! It’s been a minute since I hit the blog because I am trying to get things moving in the right direction. Which is exactly what I want to talk about today: being better than yesterday. That is my motto. That phrase is the thing that gets me up in the morning and motivated in my daily pursuits. Even if it’s just a fraction of change, I want to be better than yesterday. Yesterday, I ran a 10K. I had high hopes for this race, but it didn’t work for me. I thought it was going to rain…

Tips for new runners

Tips for new runners

It’s about time for me to get back on my blogging game and provide some useful information. Right now I’m about to start my marathon training for Chicago so running is on my mind. Plus, I feel like I’m starting all over again so this is the time for me to share tips for new runners since I feel like a new runner…again. 1. Build your base. It’s easy to get super jazzed about running. It’s easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others. You have to put all of those things aside and just build your base…

I never know where to start

I never know where to start

I never know where to start so I’ve been avoiding my blog altogether. I have plans for the blog but I just don’t have the time to execute them. Well, I don’t think I’ve been managing my time correctly when I do have the time. I guess I’m trying to add things back gradually. First I was trying to get back to working out, then dropping some weight and then getting back to teaching my cycle classes. Now might be time for me to get back to working on the blog. I’m really ready to get back to it and…

When they say you can’t

When they say you can’t

When they say you can’t, I think you can. Please fight back and do what you want to do! I’ve been a little stressed and it’s been reflected on the blog because I’ve been a little busy.  I’ve been busy because they said I couldn’t.  When I got pregnant people told me I wouldn’t work out.  People told me I wouldn’t run.  People told me I couldn’t travel. People told me I wouldn’t do a lot of things. When they said I couldn’t, that lit a fire under my butt. My baby is almost 4 months old and things have…

Five Things Friday: Mom life, salads, Chicago Marathon and more

Happy Friday, all!  By the time you’re reading this Friday will be almost over. It’s time for the Five Things Friday, but first I have to tell you some things. I wanted to put this up earlier but I’ve been dealing with the mom life (aka, a screaming infant) all day long. I should have know it was going to be a long day when she woke up at 4am.  I hope everyone is having a great week.  Here are five things I’m digging this week: 1. Willie and I are on a podcast.  It’s finally our turn for the…

Race Recap: Run Houston! Minute Maid Park

Race Recap: Run Houston! Minute Maid Park

Yesterday I ran the Run Houston Minute Maid Park 10K in Houston. This was a race I was planning to do but didn’t sign up for until this week.  I’m being cautious about all of this stuff, but these races are a good excuse to throw myself into mileage.  I will use time as an excuse not to run longer so the races for me to make it until the end.  This race was the second in the race series.  I’ve never run any of these races but I’ll get to that later. I woke up early to squeeze into…

Rock n Roll Dallas Weekend Recap

Rock n Roll Dallas Weekend Recap

This past weekend I ran some races, faced some fears and regained a few parts of myself in the process. This weekend was my first big challenge since having Baby G three months ago. It was a good weekend for me and I’m nothing but positive with moving forward. A few weeks back, I found out I was accepted as a Rock n Roll race series ambassador through the Rock n Blog program.  This is something I have been chasing for awhile (3 years) and it finally arrived on my doorstep when I had really given up hope.  I just…

I need a break

I need a break

This is a post that I didn’t want to make but I have to say it.  I need a break.  I have too many things going on right now.  My blog has always come first since I started it but right now with the new baby, I just can’t keep up.  I can’t plan the way I want to plan, I can’t provide the content I want to provide because time management is just something different right now.  Things are getting easier but I’m still making a transition.  I hope to be back on track in a few weeks after…

Five Things Friday: finally blogging edition

Five Things Friday: finally blogging edition

I feel like I’m sneaking to blog.  It’s in the wee hours of the morning but I need to get this in.  Last week I made the mistake of blogging about nonsense and then the baby woke up so I didn’t get to finish the post.  It’s sad, but I’m already wasting time.  Let’s get with it: Running.  I’m starting to get back into it.  I’ve gone back to it and things are so much better. Granted, I’m a wee bit slower (like almost 4 minutes a mile slower) than what I use to be, but I’ll get back there.…
