Fun in Denver before the race

I arrived in Denver late morning on Friday and headed to the hotel. There was a lot of things going on in Denver this past weekend so I was excited to be there. We ate lunch and had the worse service ever and then we headed to the expo! Expos are bad for me because I buy too much stuff, but I need running stuff, right? And it was rumored to be cold and let me tell you it wasn’t a rumor!

There was a zombie crawl in downtown Denver and people were going all out for this. I wish I could have gotten more pictures but I was eating and really only saw it from the window. It looked like an episode of The Walkiing Dead. These people were having a good time! The girl I sat next to on the plane to Denver was coming in from Tennessee for the crawl and she was so excited! She was a pretty cool chick. We became fast friends on the plane! I’ll have to call her today!

I hit up a lot of places. I needed to get more Nuun (and water bottle) and I was disappointed to find out that watermelon is a SEASONAL flavor. I would have bought a crap load of that stuff if I knew. I also stopped by Clif to get some shot blocs because we magically roll those suckers at our house. I stopped to get my medal hanger at Sports Hook and chatted with the lady again that I met in Philly. Her name escapes me right now and I feel horrible about it because I REALLY liked this woman. We spent a great deal of time chatting and I hate I didn’t get a picture with her. On the way out of the expo I tried Tony’s Killer Brownie which was delicious; not healthy but delicious.

Runners Roost Hat
The highlight of the expo for me was the Runners Roost shop.  There were tons of nice people and they were so positive.  And I got my new favorite hat from this place. See, that’s me in the hat! I love it.

Of course I stopped by the Chocolate Milk booth to see what was happening there. It was nice to meet some new people and take a picture that I hope I can get a copy of later. Instead of showing you those pictures, I will show these:

My best friend and honorary mom flew all the way from Mississippi to hang out and support me! That really meant the world to me. Life is pretty busy lately and I don’t have much time for hanging out and she did this for me so we could hang out…and she put up with my running friends! I must say it again, it meant the world to me to have them there! And it goes unsaid, but I was so glad my mom was there too!  These are definitely moments I want to share with her because she is the reason I am here and I love her so much!

Denver is a very clean city. There was no trash on the ground hardly and these containers were everywhere. I think I LOVE it! What I didn’t love was the customer service we had going on. Every time we ate the service was sub par and on Friday night it was so bad we got a free meal! Thank goodness for great company because there was a lot of sitting and waiting for expensive food!

Panning for gold! I think I'm having more fun than the 1 year old!

Before dinner on Saturday night, we took the lil one to the aquarium.  It was sooo much fun.  Mandie was probably laughing at me because I was freaking out when I saw an otter.  I just stood there to watch.  I love otters ever since my dad took to me to San Diego zoo back in the day.  They had the cutest otter there and I instantly fell in love!  I wanted to get my picture taken with the otters but they were moving way to fast! Sad face.  But I did get to pan for gold.  I had to send the picture to Willie because I knew he would laugh at me panning for gold.  I love Gold Rush!

Denver is obsessed with burgers. Everywhere we went huge list of burgers and small list of everything else, besides beer! I don’t drink and I quickly learned my food options were limited due to the area we were in.  I was trying not to go to Denver and eat Subway or something like that.  I wanted to try new places but the options were limited.   I didn’t have much of a food plan like I normally do because it was a short trip and I knew I was going to be busy.  BUT I really should have checked out the area before going.  In Philly, I was on point…here I was in the blind so it was hard to find things I was comfortable with eating.  Breakfast is always easy because give me some oatmeal and fruit and I can make it work.  Other meals aren’t quite that easy.

On Saturday this is what I ate for lunch and dinner. It was just easier that way. A turkey burger (didn’t eat the bun), hummus and baked pita (probably ate too much pita bread but I needed to carb load a little, right?) and a side salad (no croutons or cheese). It was good, but it wasn’t what I usually eat before a race; I typically don’t eat meat before I do long runs. But the burger was GREAT! I just went with what works. The Yard House was in our hotel and Mandie wanted to eat there too so we went for dinner. She had to take care of her son during lunch so my mom and I went on our own. The night before we tried to get in but it was packed! But it was cool because my buddy Jesus aka Junior met us there for dinner too!

The best weekend filled with GREAT people! Love all you guys! #rnrden #denver

He’s on Got Chocolate Milk Team Refuel too! I met him before I got on the team at RnR Dallas and he quickly became one of my favorite people in the world! I get to see him at the races and we always have a good time together. It was glad that he took the time to come hang out with me!

And that was all the fun time to be had in Denver, besides the race. I didn’t want to leave anything out so the race recap will be coming a bit later.

Have you ever been to Denver? What’s your favorite part about the city? If you’ve never been, what is your favorite city and why?

ABC: My 9th Half Marathon Race Goals

ABC: My 9th Half Marathon Race Goals

Happy Friday! I’m waiting at the airport for my flight so it’s the perfect time to think about my weekend goals. Run Eat Repeat taught me a thing or two about setting a/b/c goals for my races.  I usually set change my goals to make myself feel better when I’m done running a race.  I thought this time I would hold myself accountable and really stick with my goals…and find another way to make myself feel accomplished after a race. <\center>Packing for this race was a huge challenge for me because it’s going to be cold, like 40 something. I’m…

How did I get into running?

How did I get into running?

It’s question and answer time and this week I decided to answer a running question since I’m becoming a crazy runner with all these back to back races.  I’ll be heading out of town for Rock n Roll Denver and I will be running with Got Chocolate Milk Team Refuel.  But the question is: how did you get into running? I started running because walking just wasn’t cutting it for me anymore. I’ve said it many times before but when we first started going to the gym we walked on the treadmill for 30 mins everyday.  Every week we bumped…

Slapdash Tuesday: That rest day should have happened

Slapdash Tuesday: That rest day should have happened

I had a nice post planned out for today but I’m left feeling blah.  It’s probably not blah, just tired.  Yesterday I should have taken a rest day, but I didn’t.  It was just going to be an easy day. I was just going to take the dogs on a walk. I don’t walk them at the same time because they act stupid and like they aren’t trained. I have to take them one at a time. I took Master first and I walked a little over a mile. Then I took Stinkie and walked about a mile and then…

Race Recap: Tyler Rose Half Marathon

Race Recap: Tyler Rose Half Marathon

I finished my 8th half marathon of 2013 yesterday! It was a really great experience. I did set out with a pretty lofty goal of trying to finish in 2:15 which is more than doable for me, but I forgot one thing: this WAS THE HILLIEST RACE I’VE EVER RUN! The race was about three hours away so we loaded up the car and headed to spend some time with friends before the race. This was probably the best part of the weekend for me because we just got to hang out and have a good time. There was tons…

The incident of accountability

The incident of accountability

Willie and I both talk about accountability being a reason why our weight loss journey was successful. We do hold each other accountable to keep each other in check. Accountability partners are great because they keep you moving in the right direction, but it’s all fun and games until you actually have to hold the other person accountable. There was an incident of accountability with running going on in our house. Willie and I are both training for St. Jude Children’s Marathon weekend. I’m running the full marathon and he’s running the half marathon. I printed out the training plans…

Rock n Roll Philadelphia and loving the city

Rock n Roll Philadelphia and loving the city

This past weekend was HUGE for me.  I took my first trip by myself.  No friends, no mom, no husband and I had the time of my life.  When I first booked the flight and decided to go I knew this was going to be situation and I was nervous.  Every once and a while I would say I was nervous about it but when the time came to go…I wasn’t nervous.  This was a totally different experience for me and it was a journey I needed to take for myself.  I’m glad I did go because I was forced…

99 days until my FIRST marathon

You’re probably thinking: “When did this become a full on running blog?” I love to run folks and it’s just a HUGE part of me.  I thought I would give everyone an update on my marathon training. I am using a training plan from the No Meat Athlete.  I paid for the plan which was something like $40 and I really think it was the best investment in my future.  It’s not a training plan for a specific time, it’s just to finish strong and get to the race strong and healthy. While also training for my marathon I”m trying…

Last night I went running with my friends! I almost missed this race because I was scheduled to go to Gulf Shores to be with my bestie. I hate that I’m missing out on the fun, BUT something serious came up that kind of made me stay in town. Running this race was a good alternative for not sitting by the pool right now. I love running races at home because you know everyone and the environment is just fun and friendly. Everyone is so supportive and it’s just a great time! Here is my race video: Much better than…

Five things I love right now: stretching, running, television, music and snacks

Reading the site you always see about my weight loss journey and all the things that come along with it and it’s left people wondering what else am I about. This is just a little something that you can find out a little bit more about me. Yes, some of it is still exercise related but that is a PART of me too. 1. I’m obsessed with this song. It’s hit my running playlist and just a song I listen to in the car! I watched Princesses of Long Island and this was the theme song. Every week I said…

Race Recap: Area 13.1 Half Marathon Roswell, GA

Race Recap: Area 13.1 Half Marathon Roswell, GA

Saturday night I ran a half marathon in Roswell, GA! I wanted to do something fun because I feel like I’m always doing these super serious races and I thought I just needed to chillax. This is my 6th half marathon of the year and I think I have 4 or 5 more to go plus my marathon! This was the most miles I’ve ran since the Rock n Roll San Diego Half, but I have been running consistently. I wasn’t trying to break any records here and I really wanted to keep a nice and steady pace throughout the…
