Progress is moving forward, moving toward achieving a goal. Progress is always welcome but doesn’t always come easy.
There are a few things I am currently working on:
- Trying to lose my pregnancy weight.
- Find the balance and time to get my workouts in on a consistent basis.
- Getting back into running…at the pace I’m more familiar running.
There have been times when I’ve felt completely helpless during this time and there have been the moments when I thought I was taking steps backward. When progress doesn’t show its face, its hard to find the motivation to keep moving forward. I feel like I’m starting over again.
When these times arise, this when you must work harder. This is the time to push harder and if the progress bar isn’t moving after a while, it might be time to try something new that will create the change you are seeking.
For example, if you’re trying to lose weight and hit a plateau for several weeks, it might be time to change up your diet and/or trying a new workout routine. Our bodies do adjust to doing the same thing and change might be what you need to move forward. If you are trying to get faster with your running and see nothing, maybe it’s time to find a running buddy or try some speedwork. There will be moments when you have to change to see progress.
Finally, after almost 2 months, I am starting to see progress, Yesterday, I went for a run and it was the best run I’ve had since making my return. Sometimes I wonder if I returned too soon, but yesterday gave me a new perspective. I started back with run/walk intervals and now the walk intervals are getting shorter while the run intervals are getting longer. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
I am losing the weight and I’m starting to see the difference in pictures. I am getting focused on losing this pregnancy weight and getting active. I am not trying to weight myself often because I just need to focus on the non-scale victories for the improved state of mind. (There’s a reason for this but that’s a whole other blog post.) The first picture is from February 25 and the second is from last weekend.
I just need to keep moving forward and not look back. That’s why progress is important. Progress takes us away from the past and catapults us into the future.
Progress can be big or small as long as it’s getting you closer to your goal. Don’t be frustrated if progress doesn’t come right away. That is the time to push harder to see the results you are chasing. Consistency is your friend when you’re looking for progress. Just don’t give up. Progress will come.
