Transformation Tuesday: Falling into running

I never thought I would be a runner. When we started our weight loss journey, I definitely didn’t think it would be something I would fall into or even love. I started running because I needed something a little bit more fast pace than walking and that slowly turned into a love for hitting the pavement.

The only place I would run to before was the couch to catch the latest episode of my favorite show or to the kitchen table to eat. It’s sad to say, but that is the truth.

I can’t really explain to you why the change when it happened. Things kind of just fell into place at the right time. Timing was everything. My mind was right and I was committed to the cause. It was time to make the change and I went for it. I took the leap not really knowing if it would work or what would happen. It probably was a little easier to take the first steps knowing I had someone by myside but that’s not the only reason why I took the steps.

I was tired of being looked at for my size when I walked into a room. I was tired of being judged by the foods I was eating when I did settle down to eat. I was tired of not being able to wear the clothes I wanted to wear. I was afraid that my love of travel would eventually have to end because I was growing too large to fit in seat. This picture from above was taken in 2009 in San Francisco and that was the first time I had to ask for a seat belt extender. When I had to ask, my heart sank just a little bit. I knew I was growing out of control.

I was eating too much and not being active. It was time to make a change. My continued success in the weight loss/maintenance mode game has come from running. It keeps me excited and interested. Running offers me balance (even though I’m sure a lot of you think there’s not a balance with it). Running gives me something to focus on and keeps me moving, literally! The best part about running is being able to share my story AND hear others.  I get “you’re an inspiration” but I am inspired by so many people along the way that I never would have met without running.  My life has changed because I run.  I am a better and stronger person.

Running has helped my mental health in so many ways. I have learned to deal with stress better.  I have learned to channel excess energy into other things instead of destructive behavior.  Running has helped me gain the confidence that I never had in the past by giving me the strength to know I am capable of things that may not come easy to me.  Finishing a run is a mental feat in itself but I know I can power through to the end.  Running has helped me believe that I can do anything if I put my mind to it.  I now see things through until the end.  Physically running keeps me in shape, but mentally it keeps me strong.

I would really like to share my running/weight loss journey with some of you. I know running is not for everyone but it’s something that I love. Have you wanted to check running a marathon off your bucket list? Are you looking for something to jump start your weight loss or want to add something different in your fitness plan? Come run a marathon with me and Willie in Chicago! We are running for Team Healthy Kids which is a great cause and you’ll get to run Chicago. There’s still time to sign up and run a marathon with me. I’ll run it step for step with you if you want. We can bond over 26.2 miles and have a great time. If you’re interested please e-mail me.

Weight loss transformation begins with a choice

Weight loss transformation begins with a choice

Six years ago life was very different.  Sometimes it’s seems like things were simpler back then because I didn’t worry about having to make gym workouts and I didn’t care about what I ate. Dinner usually came from the drive through and nights were filled with pints of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. I was still always on the go but I wasn’t on the go to go run a marathon. There are a few things I’ve learned a long the way that I would like to share with you about the weight loss transformation. Transformation is a choice.  You have…

#TourDeAngie: Weight loss and alcohol.

Thursday night I made my trek to state #17, North Carolina, for the Tobacco Road Marathon which is tomorrow. I had a late flight and didn’t get to my hotel until after midnight because I lost an hour. Oh, did I forget to mention that I lost an hour and will lose another tomorrow due to DST? Oh well, at least the race starts later due to the time change. Yesterday I picked up my packet. I’m never available for first day packet pickup so I thought I should go. It was a small expo but it was nice. There…

The struggle is real

The struggle is real

I wish I could tell you how many times I’ve sat down to write a blog post and then nothing came out.  At this point, it’s too many to count.  I love this blog and I love helping people with my words but sometimes it’s hard to write here. The struggle is real. Do you care about what I eat on the regular?  I feel like I’m pretty boring and eat the same things.  Do you care what is in my fridge?  Do you care that I love to run?  Do you really want to know that I got up…

Water drinking experiment: out of sight out of mind?

It’s winter.  It’s coldish and the need to drink water has lessened.  I’m not trying to cool my body off from heat and I’m just plain not thirsty.  These are the times it’s very trying to achieve my daily water goals.  I’ve been failing at this lately. I had my very own water drinking experiment. I always tell people to put water on their desk at work.  I use to do it all the time but then I stopped or I would place my bottle across the room.  It was never within reach.  When it was far away from me,…

You CAN make a healthy CHANGE

You CAN make a healthy CHANGE

Sometime after leaving the gym yesterday and the ride home, I got sick. I’ve been down and out and haven’t been able to eat anything. I woke up this morning feeling a little bit out of whack but I’m hanging in there right now. Thank you to everyone sending me the well wishes. I think I’m on the mend. This past weekend, Willie and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been married for six years because a lot of things have changed. Our wedding anniversary coincides with what people are now calling our “get…

All about being on the TODAY show

Hey all!  I hope you’re having a great day.  I’ve been busy since we returned from New York and I’m trying to get a handle on things.  I really want to clean up and get things ready for the New Year.  Just in case you didn’t get a chance to catch our segment on the Today Show you can watch it here. It was a really great experience being on the show. It was exciting to sit in the green room and see all the stars come through. Willie spotted Eva Longoria and I was happy to see America Ferrera.…

Willie weight loss update and help me with a meal prep guide

Hey all! I should have gotten this up this morning but I’ve been swamped at work. It’s been pretty trying latey. I wanted to keep everyone updated on Willie’s weight loss journey and ask for a little bit of help. I don’t want to spoil the Willie’s weight loss update so you’ll have to watch to find that out: But I am interested in developing a meal prep guide. Is that something you guys would be interested in? What type of things would you like to see in a meal prep guide? This idea won’t go anywhere unless I get…

Setbacks of weight loss

Setbacks of weight loss

Weight loss is a tricky thing.  The people who need to lose weight seek it out.  It’s the goal, it’s a state of mind.  Weight loss is your best friend and biggest motivator when everything is going right and your biggest enemy when you just can’t pull it together.  “What works for one person will not work for another,” is what I’m always telling people when they asked what I did to lose weight.  That’s the truth, before, during and after weight loss. Many of you have asked about Willie and his lack of presence and I’ve kind of just…

Race Recap: The Pensacola Marathon

Race Recap: The Pensacola Marathon

The Pensacola Marathon was on November 8, 2015.  I decided to run this race on a whim because I had to cancel my trip to Las Vegas because I couldn’t miss work due to my mom’s impending surgery.  I needed to meet my state goal and it was completely last minute.  That is the reason I ended up running a half marathon the day before this race. I got in the car and drove to my best friend Mandie’s house so that we could venture to Florida together.  The drive wasn’t that long.  It was something like an hour and…
