Zip lining is our non scale victory

Willie and I always said when we lost the weight, we would do some things like go to China, travel more and go zip lining. I’m two years past hitting my goal weight and we still didn’t zip line. Today we finally enjoyed the view from the tree tops at Shelby Farms. The non scale victory really came because it was great to not have anyone question our weight and we were just normal.

Ready for our zip lining adventure!
We actually planned to go in Chattanooga but we canceled those plans and decided to come to Memphis. This was the biggest thing we had planned for this trip!

When we arrived they overloaded us with information and I was kind of nervous. I thought it was going to be a little bit more hands on with people on course to help. I didn’t realize that we would have to navigate the course by ourselves and hook and unhook ourselves. It was kind of nerve-wracking.

We proceeded on and it was kind of hard to take pictures on course because I didn’t bring my tough camera. That was a big mistake. I went ahead of Willie so I got more pictures of him. The first thing that was scary was a tarzan swing where we have to step off the platform and catch a cargo net. It was scary. I had the hardest time stepping off the platform because I didn’t know how the harness would catch me. After I contemplated it for a second, I took the step and realized it wasn’t that bad.

The next thing after the swing was our first zip line and I had to think about stepping off the platform again. It was a step into the unknown. I almost lost my favorite hat on the way down, but I made it. After that it was all fun. The actual zip lining parts of the course became my favorite.

There were some routes that you could take the easier route or take a harder course. Most of the time I took the easy route until the next to last obstacle. It was a tarzan swing that was very deceiving. It was a long steep swing and it was scary. When I got off, I was shaking. I didn’t want to go on the course and only take the easy routes. I wanted the challenge and I wanted to do push past my comfort zone.

This was what it was all about for both of us. Doing something different and pushing our limits. Today we did and it was great. This was just a great way to celebrate and appreciate our weight loss.  It’s the small things that mean the most.  I’m an very glad that I got to share this with Willie.

I'm representing for #America today in my @procompression socks I hope everyone is having a great holiday and celebrating our great country! How are you celebrating the #fourthofjuly? #keepittight #celebration #redwhiteandblue
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! This is how we celebrated our day.

How did you celebrate the 4th of July?

Always dream big.

Always dream big.

It’s harder to have dreams when you’re older, right?  It sometimes seems like dreams are for the young.  Why does that have to be the case?  Why can’t the world be my oyster just like it was when I was a 5 year old.  Things were easier back then.  All my needs were met, I didn’t have to pay any bills and I didn’t have to go to work.  Dreaming big was probably the biggest job I had. I thought I could do anything and be anyone I wanted.  Do I really need to be thinking in the past tense?…

Why my weight loss journey was successful

Why my weight loss journey was successful

There’s an article going around the internet about things women aren’t told when they start their weight loss journey.  I totally agree with this article and these are things I PREACH over and over again.  Reading this made me think about my own journey.  I’m at the place right where I want to lose 10 pounds so I will be embarking on my own mini journey for the next few months.  The plan is to try to lose 2 pounds a week so it should take me 5 weeks if things go as planned. The one thing to remember is…

Food doesn’t control me

Food doesn’t control me

Back in the day, eating was a main event.  I use to get excited about it.  There was so many possibilities and so many meals to be had. In college, this girl’s favorite thing to do was slam 20 chicken nuggets, large fries and two cheeseburgers.  I use to really enjoy a big drink and an extra large portion of chili cheese tater tots for a snack.  I would REALLY get excited about those things.  Eating was my sport of choice and I loved every minute of it. Fast forward to now, I’m really not that excited about food. I…

Things aren’t always as they seem.

Things aren’t always as they seem.

Things aren’t always as they seem, especially when it comes to weight loss. Sometimes things are better and sometimes things are worse…or sometimes things are just normal but a new normal. Willie had a break through a few weeks ago and he’s handling it well. He identified his problem areas and he’s really going after it. I’m very proud of him. He’s committing to really finding his new normal and living with it. He’s good like that. He is a pretty even in his emotions so he doesn’t let things get away from him. I’m having problems adjusting to the…

Does the journey ever really end?

Does the journey ever really end?

This day in 2011, Willie and I decided that it was time for a change.  Together we took the steps to lose weight and transform our lifestyle.  This morning I woke up to tell Willie today was the day and he didn’t remember.  I take that as a good thing because that means we’ve come a long way. I still remember everything about that day.  The conversation we had and how I really wanted to get barbecue that day for dinner. I know it sounds silly, but I still remember.  The next day Willie and I went to the gym…

The lifestyle change is DIFFERENT for EVERYONE

The lifestyle change is DIFFERENT for EVERYONE

It’s different for everyone and it’s going to change over time.  Keep that in mind.  I’ve said it many many times.  The journey I took is different from the one Willie took and will be different from the one many people take. A lifestyle change is about developing new habits.  In our case, our lifestyle change was about developing HEALTHIER habits than what we did before.  McDonald’s drive thru and movie marathons for the weekend soon became weekend running and enjoying a good healthy meal. Losing 100+ pounds takes time and commitment.  That has to come from within yourself. No…

What was the hardest thing about losing weight?

What was the hardest thing about losing weight?

FYI: This is going to be a new section of the blog.  It’s going to be the question of the week.  Sometimes I’ll take questions from what people ask me or sometimes I’ll talk about some questions that have come to my attention through reading and just normal life. This week I took the question from almost every person I’ve met in the past 2 years.  This is tricky for me because I really don’t know if people want to know the real answer.  You may not like the truth that I’m about to lay out here…or it may not…

I’m battling the insecurity

I’m battling the insecurity

I like to think I’m ok with it, but I know I’m not.  I haven’t been bashing my body image but I’ve been more conscious of it lately.  Maybe it’s because I’ve been out of town lately and really settled into my usual pattern, but I’ve been noticing. I talk about my legs way too much.  I even mentioned it last week in a blog post. I am self conscious about my thighs.  Funny thing is, it used to be my arms but now it’s my thighs. You will see the evolution of the shorts in this post.  Maybe I…

The year of me, him and we

The year of me, him and we

Yesterday was my birthday! It was a great day so thanks to all of you who wished me great birthday wishes. I would like to share with you that I did amazing things on this day but it was a pretty normal day.  I taught two spin classes, went out to eat with my husband and mom and ate my weight in froyo.  There were no candles to blow out, no cake, but there was froyo.  I couldn’t be happier!  I could go on and on about how wonderful that froyo was but I’m sure you don’t want to hear…
