Three things to overcome during weight loss journey

Anyone who has tried to lose weight knows the process isn’t easy. It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to lose 30 pounds or 130 pounds. There are just some things that will get your frustrated along the way. I’m currently trying to lose my pregnancy weight so this is something that is fresh on my mind and I thought it would be a great topic to talk about on the blog.

Problem #1:
Avoiding the social eating. Everyone wants to celebrate with food. Birthdays, holidays, because it’s Monday…or it’s Taco Tuesday, means there’s always some social event to celebrate WITH FOOD! I want to hang out with people. I want to be able to enjoy brunch, too. I know it’s about moderation, but there seems to always be something that people are gathering for. Learning moderation is a process, but staying in line with moderation is a lesson in self-control. When your weight loss journey and FOMO collide, there might be a little problem.

Solution:
Don’t skip out on hanging with friends and family, just restrict the times you go out during a 7 day period. If you are choosing to go out, don’t be enticed by the higher calorie menu items. Yes, there will be some nights if you choose to go out you will pay $15 for chicken breast, rice, and veggies. Also, you can live a little. You can enjoy the foods that you want…in moderation. If you’re trying to lose weight or even maintain your weight, there’s no way you can eat those high-calorie foods at every meal. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy those foods every once and a while.

Problem #2:
Finding the time to workout.  A healthy diet of lean meats and veggies is essential for weight loss.  (There are other things that essential too.) The daily diet is extremely important to the weight loss journey but so is getting active.  Now that I have a child, it’s a little harder to fit that workout in, but I still manage to work out 5-6 days a week.  I just have to get a little creative. Life does get in the way.  There are days that are just packed with work and meetings.  There are days when sleep evades you.  There are days when you just haven’t eaten enough to even justify a workout.  (These are all my problems and I hope those are some things that you struggle with too.)

Solution:
Find the time that is best to workout for you and stick with it.  Logistically, it’s better if I work out in the morning.  The later in the day I wait to work out, the harder it will be for me to get it done.  Not everyone is like that, so find the time that works for you.  It might be easier for some to go on their lunch break or go straight after work.  Whichever time you choose is best for you, prepare for your workout.  Know what kind of workout you’re going to do so you’re not wasting time when you finally fit it in.  Pack your gym back and put it in your car so you don’t forget it or put your workout clothes out the night before.  Set your alarms and stick with it.

Problem #3:
Dealing with the setbacks. Things aren’t going to go your way the whole time. There will be weeks when you slip up. There will be days you don’t have time to eat. There will be days that you just want to skip the gym. Most importantly, there will be times when you step on the scale and you won’t see a change. Those are blows to your positive mindset, especially when you’re putting your best foot forward in the process. You will get angry, very angry.

Solution:
Let those moments fuel you. Take that anger and let it guide your next week of workouts and healthy eating. The most important thing is to just remember that those setbacks do happen. Our bodies are complicated things and some weeks, the body just might need to readjust. It’s not the end of the world. It is the end if you choose to let those setbacks stop the journey. But things will continue to move forward if you continue to work. Take it for what it is, a setback and just keep moving forward. You will make it through.

The weight loss journey isn’t always going to be easy, that is why it’s a journey. Things will happen, you will get mad, but that doesn’t mean your journey is over. Take it one day and one pound at a time. You can do it!

Progress will come

Progress will come

Progress is moving forward, moving toward achieving a goal.  Progress is always welcome but doesn’t always come easy. There are a few things I am currently working on: Trying to lose my pregnancy weight. Find the balance and time to get my workouts in on a consistent basis. Getting back into running…at the pace I’m more familiar running. There have been times when I’ve felt completely helpless during this time and there have been the moments when I thought I was taking steps backward.  When progress doesn’t show its face, its hard to find the motivation to keep moving forward.…

Five Things Friday: finally blogging edition

Five Things Friday: finally blogging edition

I feel like I’m sneaking to blog.  It’s in the wee hours of the morning but I need to get this in.  Last week I made the mistake of blogging about nonsense and then the baby woke up so I didn’t get to finish the post.  It’s sad, but I’m already wasting time.  Let’s get with it: Running.  I’m starting to get back into it.  I’ve gone back to it and things are so much better. Granted, I’m a wee bit slower (like almost 4 minutes a mile slower) than what I use to be, but I’ll get back there.…

Do what you can

Do what you can

Happy Monday! Now is the time to do what you can no matter the level or the time behind it. I’m going through a humbling experience right now because my fitness level obviously isn’t the same as what it was 10 months ago. It’s not like I’m starting all over, but I have taken a few steps backward. Before y’all start hitting the comments about how I just had a baby or I should be blessed, I want to shut it down. I know I just had a baby and I am beyond blessed for my baby. That is not…

Post Valentine’s Day Things I Love

Post Valentine’s Day Things I Love

I dropped the ball on my Valentine’s Day blog because I was wrapped up with other things. I might have subconsciously avoided blogging about it too because I don’t really care for Valentine’s Day. It’s been a day that has been HORRIBLE for me so I try to stay clear of it all together. But I did have the best Valentine EVER which made this the best Valentine’s Day I’ve ever had! I do hope that everyone had an enjoyable Valentine’s Day filled with lots of love. I thought I would take the time to talk about some of the…

Determined to lose this pregnancy weight

Determined to lose this pregnancy weight

I’m on a mission to lose my pregnancy weight.  I wish it would just roll off but it’s not. I have to admit I am really uncomfortable in my skin right now.  It’s bothering me so much but things will get better.  The first thing I did to make myself feel “normal” again was to get out of the maternity clothes.  The pregnant look was cute for me when I was pregnant; not so much anymore. How much weight am I trying to lose?  I’m trying to lose the 15 pounds left over from the baby and then I’ll work…

Things are not normal

Things are not normal

The best blogs are the ones when you write about what you know so that is what I have to write about right now.  Things are not normal right now.  I wish I could blog about workouts, meal prepping and healthy meals, or even just weight loss.  But I can’t do that because life is just different right now. I am extremely blessed to have a child.  She is my world and I’m thankful every minute of the day.  This is definitely a place in life I never thought I would be.  Honestly, I had given up the possibility of…

Catching up: the anniversaries and baby

Catching up: the anniversaries and baby

I’m barely keeping things together.  Having a new baby is challenging.  It’s not so much the sleep thing that is getting me, it’s the everything else.  Changing of the diapers, feeding and just making sure she’s content are the hard parts for me.  That’s the biggest adjustment in my life. Plus, I’ve been having to do work in the in-between times which is something I didn’t think I would have to do.  But I still have to pay the bills, right? I am learning that I need to make some time for myself.  There’s a lot of learning going on…

Motivation to get back on track

Motivation to get back on track

It’s the holidays and people seem to get off track during this time.  For me, I’m dealing with a big event coming my way.  My focus has just been getting something in my tummy and I’ve been GREAT for the most part.  But with our little girl on the way, I’m trying to get back on track so I can stay healthy and get lose this baby weight. I’ve learned that in the past making a plan is the most effective way to accomplish a goal. It’s easier to stay focused and on track that way. I know it worked…

Tips for getting your workouts done

Tips for getting your workouts done

I know I’ve talked about this before but I have a new perspective on this subject.  Before working out was something that I wanted to do; I had no problems hitting the gym.  Now that I’m pregnant, I still want to workout but there are many excuses for me not to hit the gym.  Sometimes those are good reasons and sometimes those are just excuses.  I can now identify with some of the complaints people have about working out. I’ve been trying to workout 4 times a week in my third trimester.  For the most part, I’ve been hitting my…

Getting back on track

Getting back on track

It’s Monday! It’s the beginning of the new week and it’s time to start anew. Remember, there are good things about Mondays. There are a couple of things I have gotten away from that I think are very important and I don’t know why I stopped going them. The first thing is setting weekly and monthly goals. The monthly goal post was something I did regularly on the blog but I got away from it for some reason. Maybe I thought no one was interested in my goals or just thought it was a meaningless post…and that may actually be…
