Plane travel eats

Happy Friday everyone!  I’m headed to Kansas to run the Garmin Land of Oz Marathon.  The weather doesn’t look like it’s going to cooperate but I’m still excited to check another state off my list.  Anyway, I’m getting back into the traveling and food toting spirit so I thought I would share with you the food I’m bringing along on this trip. I’m only going for two days but I still feel like I’m bringing a lot of food. I’m also trying not to spend too much money on food while I’m there. Eating in the airport is expensive and…

Broken medals and the rest of the week

Broken medals and the rest of the week

We finally received the coveted Little Rock Marathon medal after almost two months.  I was excited because I saw other people getting their medals.  But I opened up the box and the medals were broken. To be honest, I was just glad to have the medal. It doesn’t really matter to me if it’s broken, but Willie kind of took it personal. I wish both of the medals weren’t broken because I would have just handed mine to him. He specifically ran the race for the medal so it was a big deal to him. But sadly, both were broken.…

Why my weight loss journey was successful

Why my weight loss journey was successful

There’s an article going around the internet about things women aren’t told when they start their weight loss journey.  I totally agree with this article and these are things I PREACH over and over again.  Reading this made me think about my own journey.  I’m at the place right where I want to lose 10 pounds so I will be embarking on my own mini journey for the next few months.  The plan is to try to lose 2 pounds a week so it should take me 5 weeks if things go as planned. The one thing to remember is…

Don’t get lost in the shuffle.

Don’t get lost in the shuffle.

There is one person that always gets lost in the shuffle of life and that person is you.  We spend so much time worrying and taking care of others that the most neglected person in our lives turns out to be ourselves.  It’s perfectly OK to care about others and it’s human nature to want to help people.  In most situations, it’s mandatory for us to take care of other people from our spouses to kids. But don’t forget about yourself.  You’re an important part of your life because without…your life wouldn’t be life.  I know it sounds simple and…

Race recap: Davy Crockett Bear Chase Marathon

Race recap: Davy Crockett Bear Chase Marathon

Hello marathon #20.  Yes folks, yesterday I ran my 20th marathon.  That’s kind of crazy, right?  The marathon wasn’t easy for me.  I struggled but I kept fighting.  It was just something I needed to do. Willie was nice enough to play chauffeur for me on Saturday morning to drive to Groveton,TX.  It was a very early morning because he had to wake up at 3 am for a 4 am leave time to make it to the race at 6 am for packet pickup.  We got there a quarter to 6 and I have to thank my husband for…

Five things on this Friday

Five things on this Friday

Happy Friday everyone!  I’ve been waiting for this day all week because I knew it would be a rest day for me.  I told myself that if I put in the work during the week, I could take today off from working out.  I was looking forward to sleeping in, but I still managed to wake up at 5:20am.  I got an extra hour of sleep so I’ll take that as a win. 1. I took it to the couch this morning to watch some Real Housewives of New York City and Married at First Sight.  I do love my…

Getting back to the goals

Getting back to the goals

I use to be really big on posting my monthly goals on the blog but somehow that got away from me.  I need to have my long term and short term goals in writing as a reminder.  I preached that writing your goals down was essential to success and I did the opposite.  A lot of things have gotten away from me in the past few months and I want to get back to ground zero which leads me to my goals list. 1.  I’d like to get back to where I started.  This blog has been a labor of love…

Always be better than the day before

Always be better than the day before

I’ve been trying to post for the past two days but I did something funky with the site. It took me all this time to figure out what I did wrong. Easy fix but many hours to figure it out. BUT I figured it out and I’m back to blogging. I wanted to talk about motivation for my life lately. Being better than who I was yesterday IS a HUGE thing for me. I tell everyone in my cycle classes in the morning to just be better than they were yesterday. It’s something I always say but maybe I don’t…

Good Friday leads to a workout plan.

Good Friday leads to a workout plan.

I hope everyone is enjoying Good Friday! I’ve been trying to get things organized in my house because it’s been complete chaos. Today I’ve been working on my office because I don’t actually work in here. I usually end up working on the couch and not much work gets accomplished there. Maybe when I get everything organized I’ll share a picture but right now, I’m just too embarrassed. I’ve been sporting one calf sleeve all week because I have a peroneal tendon strain. I rolled my ankle a bit last week during the trail run and it’s still kind of…

Food doesn’t control me

Food doesn’t control me

Back in the day, eating was a main event.  I use to get excited about it.  There was so many possibilities and so many meals to be had. In college, this girl’s favorite thing to do was slam 20 chicken nuggets, large fries and two cheeseburgers.  I use to really enjoy a big drink and an extra large portion of chili cheese tater tots for a snack.  I would REALLY get excited about those things.  Eating was my sport of choice and I loved every minute of it. Fast forward to now, I’m really not that excited about food. I…

Race Recap: Austin Rattler 25K

Race Recap: Austin Rattler 25K

I did it!  I did a trail run and I enjoyed.  I made myself do this race because I’m afraid of the trails.  It’s very different than road racing and I need to get a little bit more comfortable in this type of environment. I’ve come a long way since my first trail race and I’ve noticed an improvement each time I get out there. The Austin Rattler 25K was about pushing past my “boundaries” and forgetting the fear.  The Austin Rattler is apart of the Leadville race series and I signed up on a whim.  Headsweats made this day…
