Race Recap: La Porte By The Bay Half Marathon

Today I ran a half marathon.  This was one that wasn’t on the schedule.  It was kind of last minute and it was a race I had never done before.  Last week I ran a bridge so it’s not that bad of an idea.  The race was only a hour and some change away so it wasn’t a big deal to run it.

The day started out with some run group fun! I love all of these people. They really make me smile. And they get that I don’t do well with small talk.

I wore my new compression socks that kind of matched my Team Chocolate Milk. I kind of made it match because I like fun socks.

I didn’t have any goals or expectations for this race. I’ve been running pretty good lately so I wasn’t going to push my luck. Plus the weather forecast called for strong rainstorms the entire week so I didn’t want to get too excited about it. Today was all about the finish. I just wanted to run a race with my best friend Jes. With is a loose term meaning we will run the same race but not together.

The race was over a bridge. This bridge wasn’t as bad as the bridge last week but it was pretty tough. The view was amazing.

But it smelled like a hot mess for a large portion of the race. I couldn’t get over it. But like I said the view was nice. The course was an out and back so we had the honor of running the bridge twice. On the way back, it started to rain. Rain + eyeglasses = bad combination. It was hard for me to see at some points.

One guy took my hand and was trying to pull me up the bridge when I was on a walk break. I didn’t really appreciate that because I was on a walk break. I appreciate the encouragement though, so I won’t get too mad about it.

The only goal I had was to try to stay at marathon pace. I finished the half marathon in 2:14:34 (avg pace 10:16). That’s two minutes faster than last week’s bridge run so I’ll take it. The half marathon might be my distance, but I’m really working on improving my marathon. Hopefully, next week’s run will help me do good in my next marathon. That’s why I was happy to drink my lowfat chocolate milk at the end. It’s got the right ratio of carbs and protein to help with recovery. I need to get back on my feet as soon as possible because I’m running a ultra marathon on Saturday!

The medal was pretty cool too.

And I finally got a chance to meet Amanda. We always miss each other at the races but this time we finally got to meet.

Race recap: Pleasure Island Bridge Half Marathon

It’s my favorite race of the year!  I love the Pleasure Island Bridge Half Marathon for many reasons but most importantly, it’s just a great race with great people.  I run all over the country but it’s nice to run the local races.  I’m so blessed that my community has two great local long run events. This is my 3rd year running the bridge and I wouldn’t miss it for anything.  The race is scenic and it’s always great to run a bridge, right? I didn’t have a goal this year because last year I was really sluggish at this…

Race Recap: Rock n Roll St. Louis Half Marathon

Sunday morning was the day to run long! This was a taper run for me because I planned on running the Marine Corp Marathon the following week. This was also a training run for Willie who is training for his first marathon in December. It was meant to be fun. My attitude for this race was very different from the day before. The day before I was excited and ready to tackle the task. I woke up on Sunday and I wasn’t feeling it. Probably because it was a tad bit cooler than the day before. I don’t know what…

Race Recap: Rock n Roll St. Louis 5K – Saturday

It’s been awhile since I ran this race but when I got back from St. Louis, I got sick and then I was on to Washington DC for Marine Corp. I’m usually really good about doing the race recaps on time but this time I failed. Willie and I ventured to St. Louis just to run this race. That’s probably not very shocking to hear. The race started at 8AM so we had plenty of time to get to the race. The weather was cooler than what we were use to but that’s wasn’t a big deal. We left the…

Marine Corps Marathon Recap

Marine Corps Marathon Recap

Hello!  I’m still alive.  I’ve been sick lately and all my extra energy has been put into sleeping instead of working and/or blogging.  This past weekend I traveled to Washington DC for the very first time in my life.  I went with my mom because I raised money for Team Inspiration in the name of her. She’s my warrior!  I didn’t know until we were walking around that my mom had never been to Washington DC before either.  It was a special moment! I was so excited to see everything but man there are many things to see there.  We…

Race Recap: Tyler Rose Marathon

Race Recap: Tyler Rose Marathon

I was provided a free bib to the Tyler Rose Marathon in exchange for a race review. On Sunday, I ran the Tyler Rose Marathon!  Last year I ran the half marathon and I kind of enjoyed it.  The course was really hilly and I remember thinking, “I would never run a marathon out here.” Fast forward to this year, I ran the marathon. Tyler is about 3.5 hours from home and a great excuse to hang out with some great people! There’s a method to my madness though.  I was supposed to run 20-22 miles for the Marine Corp…

Race Recap: Plano Balloon Festival Half Marathon

I was provided with a free bib to this race by the festival but all opinions are my own. Spoiler alert: This race was AWESOME! This race was one I put on my radar last year. I found out about it too late and I couldn’t participate but I made sure it made the list for this year. AND it was great because it was a race Willie and I could do together. I’m all about couple activities, especially when it gives us extra time together. We picked up our packets at Central Market in Plano. It was booming in…

Race recap: Frozen Hot Chocolate 10K – Austin

My best friend Melissa is a sucker for chocolate.  I told her about these races and I was pleased to see one coming to Austin so I asked her if she wanted to do a race.  Of course, she was happy to do it.  She will run for chocolate. I like running 10K because it’s short of “longish” for a run!  I woke up Saturday to run 6.5 miles before the race so I could get my miles in.  This wasn’t anything serious for me.  I was really doing this race for fun and to hang out with my friend.…

Race Recap: Revel Rockies Marathon

Race Recap: Revel Rockies Marathon

On Sunday, I ran the Revel Rockies Marathon that ended in Morrison, CO.  I can’t tell you where it started because we had to take a bus to the top and there was no cell signal. This was the very first Revel ROCKIES race, so it was cool to be apart of the event. The race started at 6:00 am but we had to catch a shuttle to the top between 3:30 am – 4:15am. When I was leaving my hotel, there were people still partying. It was kind of funny! They dropped us off at the top but we…

Race Recap: Run The Rockies 10K

This past Saturday I ran an 10K!  I really wanted to go on a hike but since I was doing this trip by myself I didn’t want to be roaming the Rocky Mountains by myself and risk something happening to me.  I’m not an experienced hiker either so I decided that a trail run would be in order. My training plan called for an easy 3 miler and I cut my mid week run a little shorter to not overload my mileage. I took a gnarly 90 minute ride outside of Denver to Frisco, CO for this race. This was…

Race Recap: El Scorcho 25k/50K – Why I won’t be an ultra-marathoner.

I’m late posting this morning because I was sidetracked. I hate it when that happens. On Saturday night, I ran El Scorcho. It’s a race that typically starts at midnight but if you were doing the 50K option, you had the choice to early start. You have until the sun comes up to finish the race. Why is the race at night? Because we live in Texas and it’s hot! The race seems to be pretty well organized. Packet pick up was a breeze and the ride to the park wasn’t bad either. They even had volunteers to drive you…
