Hot weather is killing my marathon training

I said it.  I’m not thrilled to be training for the Chicago Marathon right now.  (Don’t forget I’m trying to raise $$ for Team Healthy Kids.  Do you think you can help me out?) It’s hot and humid and that equals struggle.  Because of the weather, I feel confined and stuck to having to run at a certain time.

#running and I are having a disagreement this week so we're taking a break from the longish run. It was nice to go out and just run around. Besides in visiting my best friends this weekend that I haven't seen in forever so I can spend more time with them.

I crapped out of my long run last Friday because I just wasn’t feeling it.  I attempted a treadmill run.  I did manage to get 4 miles in on Saturday and probably could have done more if I woke up earlier…but I was up LATE the night before.  It was nice to run outside.

It can get down right dangerous running in the heat and so you have to take the precautions to make sure everything goes well.  That usually means getting up early in the morning or running later in the evening.  It’s just really hard to get that running to fit into my schedule where it’s not a pain.  And as you all know, I’m not running if it’s not fun/enjoyable.

Crushed 14 miles on the treadmill. Wish it wasn't so hot outside, so I can run outdoors. Oh well! I don't want to think about anything serious until Monday. #tgif #instafitness #instarunners #fitness #webeatfat #fitfluential #sweatpink #marathontraining

I’ve been running on the treadmill which is OK but I’m starting to get some aches and pains from that.  I’m convinced it’s coming from running on the treadmill because I don’t have those same problems when I’m running on the roads.  Besides, the treadmill is kind of BORING! I pulled off 14 miles the other day, but I don’t think I’ll be doing that anytime soon.

I’m an early riser yes but I have other commitments for my early rising. Therefore, the early rising means I need to get to sleep early which makes running later in the evening harder.  It feel like I’m stuck in a vicious summer running cycle that I won’t be able to get out of.  I need to find a solution for the problem because right now…it’s falling to the gutter.

Also, getting up early to run in the wee hours of the morning just doesn’t seem safe to me anymore.  I usually have to do those runs alone and it kind of creeps me out now.  I did it before but now that I look back on it, I was very lucky nothing ever happened to me.  I want to enjoy my run and be safe.

It’s been really rough lately.  That is all I can say.  I am a goal oriented person and I really feel like because I haven’t been working toward something like a race, it’s been hard for me to get into it.  I’ve basically been off the running circuit since May 31st because I thought I needed to break.  I was going to spend the summer doing other things.  But I’ve found myself bored.  Plus, I like the race experience because it’s controlled and people provide me water a long the way.  That’s one less thing I have to worry about.

weather

I miss the cooler temps, even 80 degrees would do me well, so I could just get out there an run…whenever I want to.  The sad thing is: it’s only going to be 96 degrees today.  That’s not even our normal Texas summer weather.  Having to wait and plan and not do my run directly after work, kind of sucks.  It’s got me down and out.  I need to find some resolution.

Does the summer mess up your workouts?

Balancing life and fitness and adventures

Balancing life and fitness and adventures

Hello all.  I wanted to drop and get a little informal with you and just give you a catch up post on life.  It’s been a while since I’ve really checked in. First off, thanks to everyone who sent in their birthday wishes.  It was a great day even though I spent most of it in the car.  I asked if I should have cake but I eventually decided against it.  I probably should have suggested a cupcake because I probably wouldn’t have eaten half the cupcake anyway.  It’s lost on me.  But that doesn’t mean I didn’t live it…

Friday Five: Things I’m looking forward to …

Friday Five: Things I’m looking forward to happening.

Hello!  Happy Friday! It’s time for those five things on Friday and I’m kind of stumped at what five things I should talk about this week.  Last week, I did something kind of serious and helpful for others but I think this week I want to make it a little more casual.  Without anymore chit chat, the Friday Five: I’m looking forward to happening: 1. Enjoy the weekend.  It’s been a rough few weeks for me.  It’s been VERY stressful and I don’t think I handled things so well.  I am really hard on myself so maybe it’s not that bad…

Making goals on May Day!

Making goals on May Day!

Hello May!  I hope everyone is starting off the first day of the month in a positive direction. Last night, I stayed up a whole lot late for me to watch the draft.  I must confess I usually go to sleep between 8:15 pm – 9:00 pm and the first round of the draft lasted until 10:30pm.  I went into the bedroom around 10:15 to watch the two last picks but I fell asleep. This morning I woke up a little tired but I wanted to start the month off right and go to the gym.  I knew I wasn’t…
