Fitbit Flex (and Just Dance) has me getting active again

I have a love/hate relationship with my Fitbit Flex. After Fitbloggin’ last year, I decided to get a Fitbit to help me monitor my steps and sleep patterns. Little did I know, I was going to go through three Fitbits in less than a year and these things aren’t cheap. In April, my Fitbit Flex died again on the charger and I missed it but I wasn’t going to go through the hassle of getting a replacement. FYI: Fitbit support has been very helpful in providing me replacements. It is still frustrating having this thing go out on me all of…

Celebrate National Egg Month with great food.

Celebrate National Egg Month with great food.

May is National Egg Month and it’s time to celebrate.  As you know, I’ve been really jazzed about eggs and how Eggland’s Best Eggs have been transforming my diet.  Living a healthy lifestyle is important and eating these farm fresh eggs (produced in your area and delivered to your local store to stay fresh) makes meal and snack time really great.  Last month, I transformed snack time by switching from a processed snack to real food that included a hard-cooked Eggland’s Best Egg. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about not just eating food, but eating the right foods.  It’s…

Fundraising for Team Healthy Kids (Action for Healthy Kids)

Supporting Action for Healthy Kids is a priority for me because I spent a majority of my life being overweight from childhood into adulthood.  I don’t want that for the future of our country.  I always say that small steps lead to big strides and this is just one of those small steps.  This is our future.  There are many health issues that are associated with childhood obesity but there are ways to stop that.  Action for Healthy Kids EDUCATES our children on healthy options and the reasons for choosing those options over others…and when to make those other choices.…

Race Recap: Horse Capital Marathon

Race Recap: Horse Capital Marathon

Running the Kentucky Ale Horse Capital Marathon was a biggie for me.  This is the race that finally got me qualified for the 50 States Marathon Club. I decided at the last minute that it was doable and I asked around to see if anyone would want to go…and bam someone wanted to go.  The dream became a reality and we road tripped to Kentucky. We stopped in Memphis on the way there which was about 8 hours in but I wanted to stop to show Lauren where I attended college.  No pictures of Ole Miss, which we probably should…

Make every moment count

Make every moment count

Hello my friends!  If you didn’t know, I spent the weekend road tripping to Kentucky to run the inaugural Horse Capital Marathon.  It was a long trip but a lot of fun. I got to catch up with an old friend AND along the way I had a lot of fun.  I’m currently still recovering for the marathon and the even longer car ride, but a recap will be coming soon. It’s Monday which means I like to give a little motivation to start your week. I didn’t know what message I wanted to convey this morning.  I took part in…

The only spaghetti squash recipe you’ll ever need.

People are always searching for spaghetti squash recipes for a healthy lifestyle so I wanted to give you my take on this squash.  Most people just roast it and string it out to eat kind of like “noodles” and that’s great.  There’s nothing wrong with that, I just wanted to give people another take on this delicious veggie.   Spaghetti Squash Caserole Author: Angela Prep time: 20 mins Cook time: 1 hour 30 mins Total time: 1 hour 50 mins Ingredients 1 white onion, diced 1 spaghetti squash 1 c Panko bread crumbs 2 tbsp of Splenda or sweetener of…

Healthy eating with chicken: three recipes I will …

Healthy eating with chicken: three recipes I will to try

We eat a lot of chicken, turkey and fish in our house. Red meat is limited, Willie eats it but I tend to shy away from it.  Eating lean meats is a huge part of our healthy eating plan. I’ve been trying to find some ways to enjoy chicken besides the usual ways. This week for lunch I made a chicken soup from the Runner’s World Cookbook.  I was in a pinch because I needed a meal for the week but I didn’t have enough time slave over the stove.  I needed to use the crock pot. I have to…

Channel that inner ROCKSTAR with confidence

Channel that inner ROCKSTAR with confidence

In my mind, I’m a rockstar.  I have to think of myself that way so that I can keep pushing and moving on.  There’s nothing wrong with thinking I’m a rockstar, right? Thinking I’m a rockstar is just my way of gaining confidence in the moment.  At the end of the day, I know I am no different than anyone else, but there are moments that I just need to feel special.  Confidence is key and every one needs it to survive.  There are definitely moments when I feel like I can’t do something but confidence always pulls me through…

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

I know Mother’s Day is almost over but I wanted to pop in and say hello to all the mother’s out there in the world.  Without them, we wouldn’t be here. I spent the afternoon with my mother. She’s my hero. She’s battled cancer and is still surviving. I sometimes take it for granted that I spend every day with her when most people don’t get that chance. I am thankful for my momma every minute of the day. Two very important moms in my life: my mom and my sister! We had a family meal that included all of…

Food memory lane needs to be replaced

Food memory lane needs to be replaced

This is not the Friday post I thought I would be posting, but Willie and I were chatting this morning. It started off a little like this, “I feel like I’ve been going down a food memory lane this week.” The truth is, I have ventured into these conversations that end up talking about food. Wait!?! Am I’m missing the food of years past? I can safely say that is not the case. Don’t get me wrong, I do still have cravings for somethings but I would never cave to those cravings. It’s not worth it. The picture above in…
