Weekly Wrap Up #1 2022: sad news, emotional eating, anniversary, and New Year

Welcome to the first Weekly Wrap Up of 2022. The start of the New Year wasn’t the greatest. Sadly, we had to put my dog, Master, down this week. It’s has affected me more than I thought. It’s been hard adjusting to Master not being around, but I know it was the best decision. He was in a lot of pain and could barely walk. I know he’s in a better place.

The year started with several work trips, and I spent too much time in the car. I tried to start with a positive mindset and get back to some healthy habits. Life happens, and things don’t go as planned…but isn’t that just life? Let’s get into the recap.

Willie and I celebrated our anniversary on Sunday. It’s no secret that Willie and I went through some callous times, and I didn’t think we would recover. But things slowly got better, and I’m glad we were able to make it work. I am grateful and happy to be in this place in life with him. I don’t want to divulge too much here; just know we are happy and healthy.

Workouts for the week

Weekly wrap up #1 2022

Monday: Planned 35 minute easy run. This workout turned into a treadmill walk. I almost skipped this workout but decided I had the time to get it done. I also needed the mental break to deal with my emotions. I spent most of the day driving in the car and then got the news about Master.

Tuesday:  unexpected rest day.

Wednesday:  Planned 35 min speed work (30 seconds run/30 seconds walk). This workout was rough, and I couldn’t get my feet moving. My legs were dead, probably because I spent so much time in the car on Sunday – Monday. Physically I was tired, and my heart wasn’t in the workout. I did it get it done, and I managed to get my intervals done, but I could have done better.

Thursday: Planned rest, but I missed my Tuesday workout. Thursday was a hectic day of traveling for work and other household things, but I still didn’t want to miss my workout. I didn’t get a chance to exercise until 7 pm. I opted for a 25 min HIIT workout because it was a mix of cardio and strength. But let’s not get it twisted; I’m not too fond of HIIT workouts. I’m an endurance runner, so these types of exercises are HARD for me.

Friday: 90 min long run. This run went horrible. I can’t sugarcoat it. I had to pump myself up on the way to the run. I almost backed out of the run so that I could do it another day. I figured I wouldn’t feel any better the following day, so I needed to get it done now. The weather wasn’t my favorite: cold and windy, which ended up messing with me for the rest of the day. I have Reynaud’s Syndrome, which is why I’m always wary about running in colder weather. I couldn’t feel my hands and feet the entire run. Yes, I had on gloves. I could barely run, but I needed the time on my feet.

Saturday: Schedule a 20-minute recovery run that turned into 20 min recovery ride, 15 min strength for runners, and 10 minutes of glute and calves foam rolling. I looked forward to doing my strength workout. It was tough because I was physically tired from the week. It was nice to get back on the bike and not run. Therefore, I will make some changes to take care of my body in the future.

What I ate

Weekly wrap up #1 2022

Being out of town and eating “healthy” is not easy, but I wanted to keep things in check. Before leaving, I prepped food (turkey spaghetti) for when I would return, so there was no excuse for eating out when I got back home.

After learning I would have to put my dog down on Monday, I wanted to eat my feelings. IT would have been easy because I was out of town and out of my comfort zone. I sat in the Sonic parking lot for almost an hour debating on whether I should order some ice cream or not. Eventually, I decided it wasn’t a great idea. I went back to my hotel, ate the food I prepped, and ate a salad from Wal-Mart. This was a telling moment because I didn’t eat my emotions, and I made the right choice. I’m still amazed at how much growth I’ve had over the years and how much I still struggle with some things.

For being on the go and spending so much time in the car, I did well being forced to eat out and find the “healthy” options. I ordered a Taco Bell power bowl, which ended up being rice and beans with tomatoes and lettuce by the time I made the substitutions. But it was filling, and it kept me full, so I didn’t crave any snacks. And then there’s my go-to Salata when I’m in a pinch. Thursday, I didn’t eat lunch until 3 pm, but I had my salad in my car and got all my veggies in. Eating out, even fast food doesn’t have to be unhealthy. And it’s not the end of the world if you’re not making the right choices all the time. Life is about balance, and sometimes you want to eat chicken nuggets or the hamburger, so do it. But you have to learn moderation and balance to enjoy those things without putting yourself on the guilt train. (Which you should NEVER do!)

Everything else

I finally finished Take a Hint, Dani Brown. Take a Hint is the second book in a three-part series about the Brown sisters. I enjoyed this book better than the first book. I’m glad my lack of sleep allowed me to finish this book. I tried to finish it before the end of 2021, but I didn’t quite make it.

I watched Cobra Kai season 4, and it was PHENOMENAL. Fun fact: I love Karate Kid, and when Cobra Kai came out, I knew I was all in. The third season was good because the season was filled with nostalgia from Karate Kid part II, but it was boring. It was made up for in season 4 because the story advanced and was very exciting. I’m growing tired of the Tori storyline, and Miguel and Sam don’t seem like an excellent match.

And that’s a wrap on the week.

How did your week go? What was the best part of your week? Did you set some new years goals?

Gift Guide: Favorite Amazon purchases in 2021

Gift Guide: Favorite Amazon purchases in 2021

I am sharing my favorite Amazon purchases of 2021. Have you shopped at Amazon? It’s a silly question because most spend so much time searching and buying things on Amazon Prime. The holiday season is upon us, so this is the perfect chance to share my favorite purchases on Amazon this year. I know it’s best to shop locally and through small businesses, but Amazon comes through with having all your items within a click. I use Amazon much more now that I’ve become a mom, and sometimes it is hard to get out in the stores with a small…

Best of October 2021: what I ate, read, ran, and Formula 1

October is over. I can’t believe we are moving into the last two months of the year. I wanted to look back on the month to celebrate all the good land lows) of the month. Many things happen throughout the month that I may not talk about because there’s no space to talk about them. This blog post is the perfect place to include the big and little things happening in life.   October has been busy for me. There were so many activities and things to participate in throughout the month; it was nice to get back to having fun…

Tips for attending F1 United States Grand Prix (general admission) at COTA

I had my first Formula 1  (F1) United States Grand Prix 2021 this past weekend at COTA (Circuit of the Americas), and this was the perfect time to provide some tips for attending the United States Grand Prix. It’s an experience I’ll never forget and I can’t wait to go back to the circuit.  Any F1 fan is grateful to have the experience to see a race in person. Take the shuttles provided from Downtown Austin or Barton Creek Mall. There is no way I would pay for parking at COTA because I would imagine it would be a nightmare to…

Restart, rebuild and rebrand

It’s time to restart, rebuild, and rebrand. The blog has always been a sacred spot in my heart, but I stopped blogging for several reasons: There are only so many things I can say about weight loss and my weight loss journey. I am far removed from that part of my life. The weight loss niche isn’t for me. It’s a part of who I am, but it’s not everything that I am. And honestly, the weight loss niche can be toxic and unbearable at times. There’s no one right way to lose weight, and what works for one person…

Week in review 2021 #2

Hello all. I hope everyone is having a great start to the week. The week in review is a chance to talk about my workouts, what I ate, and everything in between. This is a way for me to show you how I try to incorporate healthy living into my everyday life. Plus, it’s a way for you to get to know more about me.   On my mind: Life is busy, and I feel bogged down in everyday tasks. The beginning of the year typically is VERY BUSY for me, but right now, I feel like I’m struggling to keep…

Week in review #1 2021

Hey all. It’s the first week in review of 2021. The first of the year is usually busy for me. I get caught up in the fact that I’m not checking everything off the to-do list. Instead of feeling like I’m failing or falling behind, I’m choosing to celebrate that things are busy and I can make a living. I hope everyone is having an excellent start to the year and looking for the light instead of the dark. With that said, a TERRIBLE event occurred in our nation’s Capitol this past week that left me dumbfounded. It was not…

Week in review #8 2020

It’s late, I know. Vlogmas keeps me busy on YouTube, and all my extra hours of life end going to editing videos. It’s rough, but it’s a fun project. It also teaches me a lot about myself by pushing me outside of my limits.  The week was exciting because I announced that I’m a Bib Rave Pro! Being an ambassador for Bib Rave will open up many more opportunities for me in running the community. Plus, I’ll have more running content to provide over the year. 2020 stunted us all, but 2021 is looking like it will be better. I’m…

Week in review #7 2020

Hello everyone. It’s another week in review, and boy, this week seemed to go by very slow. Last week was just Thanksgiving, and it feels like ages ago. This week started Vlogmas on Youtube. Do you follow me on Youtube? Vlogmas is where I upload daily vlogs (or not) every day until Christmas. I’ve been working hard on my videos every day, and it is a bit time-consuming. Vlogmas is a challenge this year because there are none of the regular holiday activities going on. Usually, I would run Rock n Roll San Antonio and a trail race, and there…

Week in review #6 2020

Hello, friends. It’s time for the week in review. We made it to the end of November, which means Christmas and Hanaka are around the corner. Covid scaled-down Thanksgiving this year. It was different and weird, but still enjoyable. It was nice not having to stress about big preparations or even trying to map out what Black Friday shopping I would be doing and when, since most shopping was done online.  This week, I planned to get some freelance and content planning done, but Tiny Tot had other plans. She came up with a case of pink eye, which I…

Week in Review #5 2020

Hello friends. Can I say this is a huge accomplishment that I’ve made it to a week in review #5? I’ve been trying to ease my way back into the blogging game, and I thought this was the best way to handle it all. It seems to be working. I hope y’all had a great week. The last week presented nothing special about the week. The big thing on my mind has been dealing with owning a business during these COVID times. It’s been challenging and scary at times, but all I can do is go one day at a…
