Nutrient dense foods vs. empty calories is something I’ve been wanting to address on the blog for a long time. I don’t know why I haven’t done it before now. It’s summer and I’m training for a marathon (SHOCKER!) and it’s important for me to get all the great nutrients out of my food that I possibly can…especially now that we’ve switched to a plant-based diet. The harder the workouts, the more I need to replace all that stuff leaving my body.
Food is fuel and that is something you should remember when you’re consuming your calories. Food fuels our bodies throughout the day so we need to make sure we’re adding substance to our daily diets.
After a morning workout, I’m always coming home to lots of protein and nutrients. Eggs are always a great way to get a complete protein. My point in tell you this is: I’m refueling my body with things that it needs in addition to calories. Don’t fall victim to just eating your calories. Food is our fuel for our active lives and during the summer when it’s hot, our bodies are in overdrive. It’s important to not eat empty calories but to fuel your body with foods rich in ALL nutrients.
That is what I really love about Eggland’s Best Eggs. Compared to other eggs, Eggland’s Best Eggs have double the Omega 3s, four times the Vitamin D and three times as more Vitamin B12. Although my message here today isn’t about the calories, these eggs are only 60 calories and have 25% LESS saturated fat, compared to other eggs. The eggs are produced local to your area which means Eggland’s Best Eggs stay fresher LONGER than other eggs.
Plus, Eggland’s Best eggs are produced by hens that are fed a wholesome, all-vegetarian diet free from added hormones, antibiotics, recycled or processed food, and animal by-products. That’s just a bonus for us since we switched our diets this summer. It’s a great way to get in a lighter protein that will keep us full and fueled for our continuous string of workouts.
Eggland’s Best hard-cooked eggs are perfect for a pre-workout snack because it’s a grab and go kind of snack. Plus, your body will use to protein for optimal performance. If that’s too much for you have before working it, Eggland’s Best Eggs are perfect post-workout recovery because the protein will help repair your body and get your read for the next sweat session.
It’s summer and it’s hot. We may want to reach for an ice cream or cookie, which is fine every once and while, but to keep our bodies strong we need to eat food that will fuel our bodies. Those things are nice to have but they are basically empty calories. Reach for a nutrient dense snack like Eggland’s Best Eggs to keep your body strong and able to fight off this summer heat.
