RIP Panera BBQ Chicken Salad

I received some sad news yesterday sitting in the drive-thru at Panera Bread.  I ordered the same thing I’ve been eating for a while, the BBQ Chicken Salad.  Instead of hearing, please drive around, I heard some chilling news.  The salad is going off the menu.  This made my heart sink.

Lunch from @panerabread. I didn't enjoy it too much though. #lunch #healthyeats #latergram #healthy #salad #chickennoodlesoup
This is my go-to order. I don’t have to wait forever in line and it’s always there when I forgot my lunch or waited too late to eat. Now it’s gone.

Panera BBQ chicken salad

I’m a creature of habit. I find one thing and I stick with it. I’m loyal to the cause. I enjoy the routine. Now I’m going to need to find something new. But THIS SALAD WAS EVERYTHING! It took me a while to settle on to it, but it was my biggest pregnancy craving. Like, I’ve already said…it was the meal I always went to feel satisfied. It was my comfort food. It was my main reason for going to Panera.

After hearing the news, I had to settle for a new salad yesterday. I was put on the spot and I had to pick something quick. I picked the Thai Chicken Salad. It was good, but it wasn’t my salad. Now I’m going to be in search for a new salad at Panera. This might take awhile, but I’ll keep you posted.

Do you have a favorite Panera salad?

Do calorie counts on menus matter?

Do calorie counts on menus matter?

There’s a new trend popping up on menus everywhere.  Have you seen it? The days of having to look up the calorie counts for a specific restaurant are over because it’s right there next to the entree you want to order.  And restaurants are even pointing out their low-cal options on the menu. It’s a great thing for people who are calorie conscious and still want to eat out.  Things have changed greatly from when we started our weight loss journey. Do those calorie counts on menus matter? I know when I look at a menu and see the calorie…

WIAW: Eating in Indianapolis at Fitbloggin

WIAW: Eating in Indianapolis at Fitbloggin

Welcome to What I Ate Wednesday focusing on the food I ate in Indianapolis at Fitbloggin.  I didn’t expect the food scene to be that amazing in Indy but there was some great stuff there.  Lots of different varieties of food to choose from so it was always an adventure. Thursday I went on a pre-conference excursion to Lifetime Fitness.  They had food for us to enjoy after our workouts.  Of course, it was stuff made in-house and is sold at the gym.  There was chicken salad and other lunch meat sandwiches which I can’t have so I just enjoyed…

Five Things Friday: Eating out and staying healthy

Five Things Friday: Eating out and staying healthy

I’m bringing back the five things Friday because it was something I enjoyed but kind of got away from in the past.  This Friday I’m talking about all the places I don’t mind eating out without completely blowing my healthy caloric intake.  Sometimes I do indulge but for the most part I’m trying to stay with what makes me comfortable.  When I’m on a road trip or just out and I need to eat on the go these are some places I really enjoy. Subway.  This isn’t a secret.  When I’m on the road and there’s nothing I comfortable with…

Food memory lane needs to be replaced

Food memory lane needs to be replaced

This is not the Friday post I thought I would be posting, but Willie and I were chatting this morning. It started off a little like this, “I feel like I’ve been going down a food memory lane this week.” The truth is, I have ventured into these conversations that end up talking about food. Wait!?! Am I’m missing the food of years past? I can safely say that is not the case. Don’t get me wrong, I do still have cravings for somethings but I would never cave to those cravings. It’s not worth it. The picture above in…

Hello from Alabama and what I ate.

Hello from Alabama and what I ate.

Hey all.  This morning I hopped in the car to travel to Alabama because it’s Mercedes-Benz Marathon Weekend in Birmingham.  I love this city!  It has a special place in my heart. It’s really cold here though. It’s a big change from home. The day didn’t start off too well because I left at 4:00 am but I was up half the night because my stomach was bothering me. I couldn’t eat that much so breakfast was oatmeal and Quest Protein chips.  I received a box of these protein chips and Willie really loves them.  I was really excited to…

Eating our way through Beijing

Eating our way through Beijing

To be honest, we were in Beijing and we weren’t really worried about eating clean.  It’s really hard to be picky about what you’re eating when you don’t speak the language and have no idea what to be asking for when it comes to food preparation.  Most meals were a victory because we navigated the system! Some places had English translations on the menu.  Others had pictures from us to choose from.  A lot of places just had menus in Chinese which meant we couldn’t eat there at all.  99% of the people didn’t speak a lick of English and…

At the bachelorette party

My dear friend Mel is getting married when I’m in China so I won’t be able to attend but I was able to go to her bachelorette party last night.  Well at least half of it. Since you only really hear about me working out and such I thought this was the perfect opportunity to show that I do in have a regular fun life. It’s nice to put on regular clothes with people who only see you in running gear! We all clean up very nicely. Any opportunity to put on real clothes I’m going to put it on.…

Yo Angela! Why don’t you post about food anymore?

I’ve had people ask me this in person and through e-mail.  I’m here to settle the subject.  I don’t post about my food anymore because I eat the same things all the time.  It’s not interesting.  It’s really about convenience with me.  Eating the same thing might be a little boring but I know how long it takes to make it and exactly what is in it. That being said, when I eat something different I’ll be sure to let you know. Willie made some salmon on Tuesday. That’s another reason I don’t post pictures anymore. I don’t really cook.…

Notes on the weekend: Running, weights, new people and family

The weekend has come to a close and I’m glad to report that this week was a good one.  Last weekend I was so down in the dumps and miserable, but things were totally different this week.  On Saturday morning, I got up made breakfast and was ready to run with Willie. I did a short 4 mile run and then headed off to do my weight training at the gym. This is probably a big reason why I was having a good weekend. I made it to weight training throughout the week and I was really proud of myself.…
