The Overweight Stigma: are you selling OR sharing yourself to get past it?

We live in a world where we want things to be pretty and tied up with a pretty bow. When a person doesn’t fit into that “mold” of looking the right way, things get a little sticky. The world is not kind to overweight people. The world is cruel to the obese. It may not have been like this for everyone, but I when I was obese everything that I could control in my outward appearance I would. My hair was done most of the time and my clothes were of the highest standard. I felt like I needed to…

I advise you not to run in the heat

On Saturday morning, Willie and I missed our runs for some stupid reasons.  It really didn’t matter though because it was still stinkin’ hot and humid at 6 AM.  Instead of waking up early on Sunday, we thought we could hammer it out Saturday afternoon.  It was slightly windy, right after a rain storm and another one was setting it.  I caution you not to run in the heat. If you do, you’ll get drenched in sweat and you’ll look like this: But if you live in place where you can’t avoid it, like us, here are some tips for…

Five Things On Friday

Five Things On Friday

This week has been a little bit more laid back than last week. I feel like last week was a lot of prepping and this week has been a little bit less of that. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t been busy though. When the blog posts don’t come frequently, you can pretty much assume I’m busy at work. So guess what? I’ve been really busy. 1. I pretty much feel like all I’ve done is work…including my working out (which is part of my job too). After the Monday run debacle, I haven’t been right at all this week. My…

Forget about everyone else

Forget about everyone else

It’s time to STOP worry about what everyone else is doing or what they are thinking about because it’s doing nothing but wasting time. It’s time for me to do me and you to do you!  Stop worrying about what other people are thinking about you because chances are they aren’t thinking about you at all.  So why worry about them? Last week 10+ Reasons I Love My Ugly Body hit the internet and took the social media world by storm.  I don’t personally know Andrea, in fact I just started talking to her this week.  I didn’t start talking to her…

The story of a girl and her dog

The story of a girl and her dog

Memorial Day weekend was pretty eventful.  I got to spend time with family and my best friends.  I also spent a lot of time running. This past weekend was the Daises and Dragons Duathlon for the kids.  I don’t have a kid so I like to borrow kids!  This time I recruited my niece and nephew.  It was so cute watching the kids race and the pure joy on their face.  It was amazing!  Kids see the world differently than we do and it was nice to see it through their eyes for a little while.  It was so much…

Saturday salad because I’m obsessed

Saturday salad because I’m obsessed

I’ve had a mild obsession with salads lately.  I think it’s because Willie and I have been listening to food podcasts and talking about food.  In our house, endurance sports and cooking are the main topics. So I’ve been trying to come up with some salad ideas. I’ve also been told that I’m having iron issues so I’m trying to eat more leafy greens because apparently I don’t eat enough of them. I do this though so I don’t have to take those nasty iron pills. I present to you the baby kale and spinach salad: 1 package baby spinach…

Why I loved the Jet Magazine article

Why I loved the Jet Magazine article

Welcome to everyone who found my blog through the Jet Magazine current issue. It was something totally unexpected and I didn’t even know we made the magazine until my mother-in-law told me. It’s a great honor. It’s not a great honor because are in the current issue, it’s a honor because I really feel like they captured the essence of our journey. Sometimes when you do these things people are listening and other times people are REALLY listening. I feel like Ms. Miya Williams really listened. The one thing we really want everyone to know is losing weight is hard…

My veggetti experience

My veggetti experience

Last week Jes and I purchased the veggetti.  I’d seen the veggetti before but I never remembered to pick it up when I was out.  We saw a commercial for it while we were eating dinner and immediately we went out to purchase one. It was a very exciting moment. I couldn’t wait to try it. So last night I tried it. The veggetti works very easily. Watch your fingers though at some points, but it’s nothing serious. I used zucchini and summer squash. It was on sale this week! It was fast and it left the veggies looking funny.…

Race Recap: Beach to Bay Marathon Relay

Race Recap: Beach to Bay Marathon Relay

On Saturday, Willie and I ran the Beach To Bay Relay in Corpus Christie, Tx with Tyson‘s family! I was nervous about this relay because it seemed like chaos. I don’t do well with chaos. Thankfully, Missy was there to make sure everyone got to their point. The biggest thing about B2B was the waiting. But at least the view was good. I was running the last leg of the relay so I did a lot of waiting around. But I got in some good chatting time with my bestie and god daughter. I also got hit in the head…

Define your happy.

Define your happy.

Happiness is relative. What makes me happy will definitely may not make you happy. What makes me happy at a certain period in time will change from day to day. If I’m longing to be outside on a beautiful and I finally get there that will definitely make me happy, but that may not make me happy everyday. It’s all about a circumstance, a moment, a smile, a joke, a song…etc. Happiness comes with it’s ebbs and flows. The one thing I do know is EVERYONE DESERVES TO BE HAPPY! What is happy? Here is the official definition of happy.…

Some eats from this week

Some eats from this week

I have food pictures to share which is totally unusual for me since I eat the same stuff most days. Here’s some things I’ve eaten this week. My new jam. I think this has become my favorite post race meal. The grilled chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-a are really really good. I just discovered them when we returned from China and I’m so glad that I did. These things are delicious with the fruit cup. No fries for me but they never seem to get it right. I always have to tell them I ordered the fruit cup and no fries.…
