Energy bars and working out

I feel boring lately because I haven’t really been doing anything exciting. I needed the change of pace though because I was on the move the entire beginning of the year. Plus, things are getting ready to kick into high gear for me. This week I’m going to Fitbloggin in Savannah, GA so I’ll be on the move. I thought I would let you know what’s going on in my boring life… I enjoyed a beautiful sunset after book club last week. This was an amazing thing for me because I’m usually in bed when the sun goes down. I…

Giveaway: Pure Via’s stevia summer fit kit

Giveaway: Pure Via’s stevia summer fit kit

It’s summer and it’s getting hot.  When summer hits, I suddenly become obsessed with tea and nothing else.  Do you like tea? Tomorrow is the first official day of summer, so why not spend it drinking some iced tea with some good company. I’m usually a hot tea drinker but since it’s been so hot outside, I’ve switched the the iced variety of tea. I do love to make a big batch of green tea and put in the fridge to chill. Luckily, Pure Via sent me a variety of stevia products to try out.  I’ve been having fun mixing…

Tuna Chickpea Salad

Tuna Chickpea Salad

This past weekend I took my bestie to Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods!  She had never been.  I was shocked when I found this out because I love those places.  Any health foodie loves Whole Foods, right?  Yes I know it’s expensive BUT you can find stuff in that store you can’t get most places.  It was taking kids to Disney World for us! One of my favorite things at Whole Foods is the food bar.  Remember that kale salad I was going nuts for last year? It’s so good.  I love the food bar because you can try lots…

Take the time to meal prep

Take the time to meal prep

I stopped meal prepping when I was traveling a lot last fall because I wasn’t home.  I stopped a lot of things and it made life a lot harder.  It suddenly became easier to pick up something on the way home.  Since Willie got into his cooking though, things have changed.  I’m not just meal prepping by myself.  I have a partner in the kitchen now.  Willie and I discussed some changes we wanted in our lives and getting back to meal prepping was big deal.  We also started making our own lunches instead of eating a Healthy Choice meal…

Marathon training might just have to take a backseat

I don’t have much to report from the weekend. I’ve enjoying the weekends of not doing much because I was on the constant move earlier in the year. I also know I’m going to be on the constant move towards in the fall too. I’m taking the time to enjoy summer. Only bad thing, I missed the 5K on Friday night because I got busy and lost track of time. No bueno. But on Friday, i went to my first tabata bootcamp class. Talk about intense! They are offering the classes at my gym so I thought I would try…

Do you like t-shirts with motivation words?

Do you like t-shirts with motivation words?

Today is your lucky day if you do!  Remember last year when Willie and I were raising money for St. Jude’s Children Hospital to run in the canceled marathon?  Well we are doing it again!  Last year, Team We Beat Fat raised $2500 for the the children at hospital.  This year we want to raise money again. Together, Willie and I, will run the St. Jude Marathon in December and we would love to be able to sport a heroes singlet as we run through the St. Jude campus.  Every dollar counts and helps a child fight their battle with…

My quick lentil soup

My quick lentil soup

Yesterday morning was a crazy one.  I was running behind from the gym but I wanted lentils for lunch.  When I made it home from the gym at 6:05 am, I had about 45 minutes before I needed to leave for work.  I figured that would be enough time to cook up some lentils and I created something delicious. Lentils are part of the legume family and are a super healthy food.  In one cup of lentils there is 18g of protein which is pretty impressive. Also, lentils take on the flavors of what they are cooked in so you…

Failing at recovery

Failing at recovery

This shouldn’t be an issue. I’m on Team Chocolate Milk. I should be mastering recovery, but I’m failing. I noticed after I ran the half marathon on Sunday that I was a bit more beaten up than usually. I just figured it may have been due to the fact I ran the back half of the race a little harder than what I’ve been running lately. I waited too long for my lowfat chocolate milk. I mentioned that it started pouring very shortly after I crossed the finish line so I didn’t have enough time to grab anything for recovery.…

Graduation and a race weekend

Graduation and a race weekend

This past weekend was a busy one.  My littlest brother graduated from high school. I’m very proud of him. I know he will do great things with his life and will see amazing things. Graduating high school is such an important step in life and I know he will make the decisions that are right for him. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to accomplish in life! The weekend was filled with fun times which unfortunately means food. There’s a Mexican fiesta happening for a party but we only had a few rice and beans and decided to…

Avocados and strawberries, a quick bread recipe

Avocados and strawberries, a quick bread recipe

I’ve been on a mission to make something different with an avocado for a little contest.  I didn’t want to do something savory because I felt like everyone was going to be doing that.  I wanted to do something with an avocado that people wouldn’t think about using it for.  I thought there would be lots of deviled eggs or salads so I wanted to go the opposite route.  I tried on Sunday with an OK product. For some reason I was intrigued by an avocado and strawberry combination. I really wanted it to work! It turned out OK but…

Happy National Running Day

Happy National Running Day

It’s a day to celebrate running and we all know how much I love running! I thought I would start off the day the right way by working out. I went to Group Power and then I came home to put on a running shirt. I had too many decisions. I didn’t know which one to wear. I chose The Louisiana Marathon shirt because it was my first marathon and it’s my favorite race of the entire year! This is the part why I tell you why I love to run. I run because it makes me believe what I…
