You CAN make a healthy CHANGE

Sometime after leaving the gym yesterday and the ride home, I got sick. I’ve been down and out and haven’t been able to eat anything. I woke up this morning feeling a little bit out of whack but I’m hanging in there right now. Thank you to everyone sending me the well wishes. I think I’m on the mend. This past weekend, Willie and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been married for six years because a lot of things have changed. Our wedding anniversary coincides with what people are now calling our “get…

Happy Friday!  Today I thought I would share with you some finds from the week.  It’s a new year so all types of stuff is hitting the internet and some of it I actually found interesting. It’s a new year so it’s time to really start tracking your food and your workouts. We have always talked about logging your food here as a way to lose weight. It’s also important to log your workouts. Yesterday I was talking with a friend about his running and he told me that RunKeeper has run training plans for ALL LEVELS. This is a…

I’m battling an injury

I’m battling an injury

I’ve had a nagging injury that I kept running on for about a month. I’m pretty sure it started off as a sprained ankle and then turned into something else. Resting wasn’t something I was interested in doing. I was able to finish the races I wanted to do so I said I would rest. On New Year’s Day, I ran a marathon. Things were going well until my ankle brace really compressed the tendon on the top of my foot. The last 3 miles I was forced to walk because that tendon was so swollen which caused some other…

Race Recap: The Santa Hustle Galveston Half Marathon

Race Recap: The Santa Hustle Galveston Half Marathon

I’m kind of behind on my race recaps so I thought this Tuesday was the perfect day to catch up. I ran the Santa Hustle Galveston Half Marathon on December 20, 2015 in Galveston, TX. I ran it with my good friend Julie. We both decided to run the half marathon. This is a holiday themed race which is really nice. I was in the need of some holiday spirit and this was a nice jumpstart to it all. Packet pickup wasn’t anything special but it was easy. Everyone got a red zip up jacket instead of shirt for this…

Recipes: Stay healthy and indulge over the holidays

Recipes: Stay healthy and indulge over the holidays

It’s coming on Christmas and there are tons of treats and foods in your face.  It’s impossible to escape.  You know I’m a big fan of moderation and deprivation.  If you deprive yourself of the things you want, you’ll probably end up binging on those foods later.  Enjoy them now with moderation and portion control. There still is a way to stay healthy and indulge over the holidays. I will indulge during the holidays but I’m ok with it because I am keeping active. I try to keep my activities holiday themed too because it’s just so much more fun.…

What I learned from 40 races in 2015

What I learned from 40 races in 2015

Here’s the breakdown:  7 5Ks, 1 10K, 3 other distances (10 milers and 25ks), 11 half marathons, 15 marathons and 3 ultra marathons (two 50ks and a 50 miler) That was my 2015.  I could be missing something but I’m going to go with this count.  Yesterday I ran my last race of 2015 which made me think about what I’ve learned. This is what I learned from 40 races this year. Running is my vessel to travel.  It gives me an excuse to hop on a plane or get in a car.  It combines two things that I love…
