Episode #1: Reintroducing We Beat Fat

I’ve been slacking on content because I’ve been trying to put together a podcast.  I really should have put this episode up last week.  None of that matters because I’m putting it up now. Back in the day, I use to podcast about Gossip Girl and it’s something I really enjoyed doing and I just think it’s a natural progression of the blog now.  I am really looking for some help with the podcast.  So what kind of things do you want to hear on the podcast?  What topics do you want to be covered? We Beat Fat Episode #1:…

Frozen vs. Fresh: The Produce debate

Frozen vs. Fresh: The Produce debate

Back in the day, I use to buy everything fresh and just prep the crap of out of it.  Now I don’t really have the time to do that with the little one running around.  But I also don’t know how to get my veggies in the way I want them buying them fresh.  My broccoli was always too hard, or I didn’t cook the green beans long enough.  There was always a problem. And then I started buying frozen vegetables.  I never thought this was a problem until there was a recall on some frozen vegetables at my grocery…

Happy New Year! Are you buying into the hype?

Happy New Year!  I hope it’s been a great start to the year for you.  I wanted to pop in on the blog because this is the day everyone is trying to get their messages out into the world.  If I read one more post about setting goals and making resolutions, I think I might freak out.  That’s funny coming from me, right?  My blog is supposed to be about finding your best self, going after what you want, and just accomplishing something. The new year doesn’t mean you needed to have everything figured out on this day.  The new…

Closing out 2018

Closing out 2018

Hey all!  It’s the last post of 2018.  It’s been a year and I would like do a rundown of 2018.  This post is going to be extremely personal, so if it’s something you would like to skip, I understand.  I’ll just see you in 2019!  If you want to keep reading, that is always welcome. I ended the year with a strong workout.  Let me tell you, I didn’t want to get up to do this workout but it’s important to me to finish out the year strong.  This isn’t the time to slack off.  It’s time to start…

Forgetting my goals for 2018

Forgetting my goals for 2018

At the beginning of the year, I sat down all gung-ho with a notebook and wrote down some goals.  I had a long list of goals I wanted to accomplish in 2018.  My list was too long and I didn’t accomplish nearly as much as I thought I would. This list was lengthy but I learned that trying to do too much pulls your attention in too many different directions and you don’t get anything done.  I honestly forgot I even made this list until I opened up my notebook on Monday.  I am glad that I accomplished something on…

Broccoli salad and new meal prep help

Broccoli salad and new meal prep help

I’m still talking about that broccoli salad folks.  I don’t feel like I can appropriately move on with life until I tell you about the broccoli salad and what variation I decided on.  There are many variations on a broccoli salad which opened my eyes to this salad.  Broccolli salad is kind of BIG deal.  I found one that would work for me. I finally decided on the Best Broccoli Salad recipe from Mom on Time Out. I’m not sure why this appealed to me so much.  Maybe because these are ingredients I keep in the house and I wouldn’t…

Merry Late Christmas

Merry Late Christmas

Hello all!  I was super busy cooking a bunch of food for Christmas and getting things ready for Tiny Tot that I didn’t have enough time to post. It’s wicked hard to be a parent at Christmas. I never really understood the pressure, but I’m going to try to keep it real. Gift giving is hard for me because I never know when enough is enough.  She is a child and deserves to have gifts on Christmas but she doesn’t need an overabundance. I can’t control what other people buy her, but I can keep my spending in check. I…

Preparing for Christmas

Preparing for Christmas

I missed blogging yesterday because I was just too tired. From Tiny Tot’s birthday and now planning for Christmas, I kind of screwed the pooch on the blogging thing. I did have a very productive day yesterday which has eased up on my Sunday a bit. Normally I would tell you about the meal prep I would be doing this week, but that’s isn’t going to happen today. I can’t fit any more food in my fridge. My fridge is packed to the brim with things for Christmas dinner and some essentials we need to last until then. It’s been…

Blog break for a 2nd birthday

Blog break for a 2nd birthday

I hope you don’t mind but I’m taking a break from the blog today because it’s Tiny Tot’s birthday. I’ve been trying to spend the day with her. It’s been a great day. She’s changed my world so much and she’s made me really re-think everything important in my life. It’s been a plesure to watch her learn and grow into the little person that she is now. It’s amazing to see her turn into a full functioning human. She’s the greatest thing to happen to me but the scariest thing too. To be responsible, to learn balance, to learn…

Should I make broccoli salad for Christmas?

Should I make broccoli salad for Christmas?

I don’t know why I’ve been thinking about broccoli salad all day, but I think I want to make one for a side dish for Christmas.  I haven’t really decided what we will be eating at this meal.  I’m just now starting to put the pieces together.  I’m sure Tiny Tot would prefer to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I didn’t know there were so many variations of a broccoli salad.  There are options with mayo and mayo substitutes.  I need to decide between grapes, blueberries, apples, and oranges.  There is a bacon and cheddar combination.  I didn’t think…

Cookies with substitutions

Cookies with substitutions

My need for cookies the other day was strong.  I don’t know what it is about the holidays that makes me want to enjoy a good Christmas cookie.  Christmas cookies come in those different flavors that you don’t really experience year round.  I’m here to tell you I want to make those cookies but I didn’t.  I just made a good ole chocolate chip cookie and a sugar cookie. I blogged about how you shouldn’t suffer for holiday indulgence guilt so if you want to eat the cookie, eat the cookie. There are a few things I don’t keep in…
