Race Recap: RnR San Diego 5K

This should have been up ages ago, but I got sick the week I came back and then this week happened. We’ll just consider it a Throwback Thursday to an old race. I had a really fun time in San Diego because I got to spend some time with my best friend. This was her first trip to the West Coast! We were there together to run the Rock N Roll San Diego Half Marathon and Marathon!

San Diego

Saturday morning, we ran the Rock n Roll San Diego 5K at Balboa Park. We had to pick up our stuff that morning. It was an early wake up call because Missy’s flight was about an hour late the night before and she didn’t get settled until after midnight. Getting to the park was not easy when you’re not from the area. RPick up was easy. We sat around and waited for the 5K to start. Missy was nervous because this was her first back to back race but it was all for fun.

When I was waiting to start the race, I saw Dani running past us. It was great to see her if only for a brief moment. I wish I would have had more time with her and I planned on going to some stuff she was doing but I was just so dang tired on Saturday. Thanks Dani for the picture!

San Diego

I had a great time. I was feeling good and I finished in 30:04. No a PR but I didn’t care. I was having a great time. The weather was very nice and breezy. Nothing like what we had here in Texas. The weather at home has me running slower than usual and I kind of thought I was regressing until I ran this race.

San Diego
Missy survived the somewhat hilly 5K and was ready to roll! She’s new to all this and I doubt she’ll ever really call herself a runner. But she’s trying to become a little bit more fit and we all have to lots of respect for that!

This was the best RnR 5K I’ve run as part of a remix challenge. In Dallas they had us running around a parking lot, in St. Louis it was pretty good but not very scenic, but this one was great! I just really enjoyed being out and having everyone cheer us on and the street was pretty interesting.

San Diego

After the race, we headed to the expo to pick up our packets for the next day. We fumbled around there for awhile but not too close to other people. I was all kinds of stinky from sweating at the 5K! We looked at everything. Missy sang for a Disney back (no picture, bad blogger) and enjoyed some Suja juice. It was a BIG expo which I loved!

San Diego

I showed Missy around the area we were staying and we headed north to enjoy some time in Carlsbad. We ate at Ruby’s Diner and shopped. We were pretty tired at this point so we headed back to the hotel to rest a little before we headed out again for the evening.

Recap of the main event is coming soon…

Race Recap: Horse Capital Marathon

Race Recap: Horse Capital Marathon

Running the Kentucky Ale Horse Capital Marathon was a biggie for me.  This is the race that finally got me qualified for the 50 States Marathon Club. I decided at the last minute that it was doable and I asked around to see if anyone would want to go…and bam someone wanted to go.  The dream became a reality and we road tripped to Kentucky. We stopped in Memphis on the way there which was about 8 hours in but I wanted to stop to show Lauren where I attended college.  No pictures of Ole Miss, which we probably should…

The daily life and the medals

The daily life and the medals

Good afternoon everyone! I had this post planned today about hydration and I just wasn’t feeling it. That will probably have to come tomorrow because it’s important information. I’m not feeling much today. I’m feeling lazy and tired. I really didn’t take much time to recover two weeks ago from the marathon and then I went and ran another one. I’m a little off my marathon game. So here I am blogging to you today about…not much. Yesterday there was good news in the mail. We got our Little Rock Marathons in the mail again. This time I got my…

Always dream big.

Always dream big.

It’s harder to have dreams when you’re older, right?  It sometimes seems like dreams are for the young.  Why does that have to be the case?  Why can’t the world be my oyster just like it was when I was a 5 year old.  Things were easier back then.  All my needs were met, I didn’t have to pay any bills and I didn’t have to go to work.  Dreaming big was probably the biggest job I had. I thought I could do anything and be anyone I wanted.  Do I really need to be thinking in the past tense?…

Race Recap: Garmin in the Land of Oz Marathon

Happy Marathon Monday!  Today is the Boston Marathon and every runner is glued to the television. I had to watch it on my iPad at work. One day I hope to run Boston but qualifying is not in my sights or anywhere attainable right now.  I’ll get there one day though.  Since it’s Marathon Monday, I thought it was only fitting that I share my race recap of the Garmin in The Land of Oz recap with you today! I traveled to Olathe, KS to run this marathon. The weather wasn’t forecasted to be the best and I was a…

Race Recap: Mississippi Blues Marathon

Race Recap: Mississippi Blues Marathon

This past weekend, I ran the Mississippi Blues Marathon in Jackson, MS.  This race made Runner’s World Best Marathons to run this year.  I was highly intrigued about this race making the list.  Jackson isn’t exactly the travel hot spot so I really wondered what the fuss was about.  I quickly learned but I’ll get to that later. This race was also the marathon maniac reunion race of 2015!  Last year the reunion race was The Louisiana Marathon, but I was just running my first marathon at that race.  It was exciting to be a Marathon Maniac this year and…

Race Recap: St. Jude Memphis Marathon

Race Recap: St. Jude Memphis Marathon

Please excuse me while I talk about this race with great emotion.  This race was supposed to be my first race last year but we all know what happened.  This year it was Willie’s first marathon!  When we arrived in Memphis, I felt like I was running a marathon for the first time.  I was nervous.  I was excited.  I didn’t know what to expect.  There was only one thing I was interested in: watching Willie cross the finish line. Willie has a strict “no running with me” rule and I had to abide by it.  It’s probably a good…

The beginning of MY quest

The beginning of MY quest

If you’ve been reading the blog, you may have noticed between the lines that I’ve been in search of something.  The past 6 years I’ve been trying to move in a positive direction after being so not positive for a long period of life.  Before I played the victim, I complained all the time and nothing could ever make me happy.  It wasn’t a great situation which didn’t make me a fun person to be around.  A lot of my personal relationships suffered greatly and I knew I had to make a change.  Today I feel like I’ve taken a…
