Why do I blog?

KeyboardThe short answer to the question: I choose to blog because I’m asked a ton of questions every day about what we did, how we do it and how has it changed our life. By blogging, the story, the experience and my daily life will be here for people to read or not read. The lifestyle change journey is long and continues every day and sometimes people do want a detailed account of what we did to make it work. Others sometimes just want the short version so the blog gives everyone what they want.

Blogging is hard because it’s a log of everything that people must commit to accomplishing. It’s also hard because people will criticize the words that I will say or just not agree. When people get behind a computer screen, they get brave and say things they would never say to someone’s face. But the benefits outweigh all the negatives and this is the chance I’m taking.

I’ve been approached several times over the past couple of weeks of people asking me to share my story. People have called me things like “inspiring” and “motivating” and have asked me to share with family and friends that need help! This kind of bothers me because people don’t realize that pushing an inspiring story on an overweight person just might backfire. But I also know that my words might be helpful to some people. If I can inspire, motivate or help just one person who truly wants to succeed by blogging then that is what I’ll do.

At the end of the day, I know that sharing my words, experiences and thoughts can be beneficial to others who may not know where to start or how to continue. Sometimes we just need to know that someone else is going through the same thing we are and someone out there truly understands. Or sometimes we just want to know that we’re not crazy for thinking or feelings a certain way. This is my way of building a support system for someone who may decide that 2013 is their year to finally kick their overweight habit. I want to be more than a motivator; I want to be a “movivator” (meaning I want people to get up and move)!

We’ve all seen The Biggest Loser and at some point have been inspired by these people’s stories to get up and move. But the show doesn’t show you really what those people are doing to lose the weight or their eating or anything real behind the weight loss story. I don’t want to talk bad about the show because it is a motivating show that gives people opportunities they would not have in regular life. But that’s the thing; it’s not regular life. People are put in these hyped up situations under extreme medical surveillance to produce EXTRA-ordinary results for drama reality television. Just being a spectator of the show doesn’t teach you anything because you’re not seeing the full story. There’s only so much stuff that can be squeezed into that two-hour period.

There are a few things you can expect to see here at momworksitout.com like tons of pictures of me cooking or the end result, posts on some different experiences I’ve had along the way, helpful tips and tricks, things about my daily life…among other things. I’m really hoping to get my husband on here talking about his experiences every once and while too! This blog will be my places of sharing so if there is something you want to know, don’t be shy about sending e-mail or contacting me or tweeting me. I hope my words can help you along the way because it’s not just about weight loss or changing your lifestyle; it’s also about re-discovering who we are as people and living a healthier life!
