Are you hydrating the right way? (featuring Ultima Replenisher Electrolytes)

“Disclaimer: I received an Ultima Replenisher to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!”

It’s hot outside, and Ultima Replenisher has helped me stay hydrated over these heated months. It is hard to avoid it, especially living on the Texas coast. The heat and humidity make the workouts harder, which means I spend a little extra time focusing on hydration. Long runs become a bit harder during the summer months, which is ironic because this is when we start training for those fall races we love so much. The weather is always more likable in the fall, right?

Ultima Replenisher has zero calories, zero sugar, zero carbs electrolyte mix sweetened with organic stevia leaf. There’s a wide range of flavors like orange, raspberry, but there are also limited mocktini (aka mocktail) flavors: Peach Bellini, Coconut Pina Colada, and Appletini.

We know we should be doing hydration, but we always seem to feel dehydrated during long workouts. Let me help you out by providing you a few essential tips about hydration and activities.

Ultima replinaher

Tips for hydrating during your workout:

  1. Drink 14-20 fl oz of electrolyte-enhanced water 2 hours before activity.
  2. Drink 8 ounces of water 30 minutes before starting your training.
  3. Drink water early during your workout because water absorbs better during this period. Try to drink every 20 minutes.
  4. Replace lost electrolytes after your workout. You need to replace the minerals you lost while sweating during your workout.

As runners, we know we need electrolytes to keep going during long distances, but I never focused on understanding what electrolytes did to support me powering through my workouts. I thought electrolytes just added sodium, but I quickly learned I was wrong. Ultima Replenisher contains “The Mighty 6 Electrolytes”: calcium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, and sodium. Electrolytes work together with vitamins and other minerals to keep you feeling good and performing at your best.

Calcium helps with muscle contractions and nerve functions.

Chloride helps with osmotic pressure support.

Potassium provides cardiac muscle support.

Sodium helps with muscle contraction and nerve functions.

Phosphorus helps with oxygen delivery to your muscles,

Magnesium helps prevent cramps.

Ultima Replenisher Review

Ultima Replenisher tastes delicious and will be a part of my training process. These flavors are what you would expect, and it’s cool the replenishers have fun, vibrant colors. The taste is the right balance of being light and not too overpowering, making it easy to drink when I needed it most. Most importantly, Ultima Replinshers are not too sweet. The flavors are so spot on it; it reminds me of having a nice vacation treat.

It’s also nice to have the stickpacks to take with you on the run (or on the go). The stickpack packages are easy to open, so hydrating can not just be flavorful but also quick. These stickpacks are not something I would take on the run with me. I drank an Ultima Replenisher before my long runs and never had any stomach issues. And, of course, I used it for recovery after all my sweaty workouts.

Trying NOW® Sports Effer-Hydrate to aid in hydration

Trying NOW® Sports Effer-Hydrate to aid in hydration

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. This time of year, it’s hard for me to stay hydrated. Texas summer leaves me always reaching for my water bottle, but a southeast Texas “winter” leaves me with comfortable temperatures where it feels great to get some miles outside.  My daily routine consists of 80-100 ounces of water per day. When I’m hydrated, I sleep better; I don’t feel sluggish throughout the day, my skin is in great shape, and it easier to make it…

One tough mother can. Motherhood isn’t the end.

Sometimes I feel like women people say they want a family or are pregnant, there’s just a bunch of negativity that automatically comes back.  The world is suddenly filled with all the things you “can’t” and “won’t” want to do.  It’s more than unfair that people expected me to give up my dreams or dim my light due to the fact I was a popping put a baby. Why as a woman are we challenged by what we want to do when having a child, but a man isn’t? One tough mother can find a way to find her “all.”…

Healthy eating and the toddler

Healthy eating and the toddler

Healthy eating for the toddler just doesn’t seem to be happening.  It’s been a huge struggle in my life lately because she’s only into bread, crackers, cheese, or macaroni and cheese.  The things she once ate, she doesn’t eat anymore.  I don’t really know what happened but my child has taken the wrong turn in her eating journey. And she’s adamant about it too.  She will just not eat the food that is placed in front of her. She will not eat all day. She’s a trooper. The food will sit out in hopes of her getting hungry and wanting to…

App review: The Peleton Digital app

App review: The Peleton Digital app

Peleton is a huge success and came onto the scene with that insane bike that people are raving over.  I’m sad to say that I don’t have one, but I want one.  I can probably justify getting one now that I’ve lost one of my cycle classes. I do have a cycle back in my living room so I did make the decision to try the app.  I’ll be real with you, I tried the app a while ago and it was $12.95/month.  I thought it was insanely expensive to pay that much for the app.  At the time, it…

Blog break for a 2nd birthday

Blog break for a 2nd birthday

I hope you don’t mind but I’m taking a break from the blog today because it’s Tiny Tot’s birthday. I’ve been trying to spend the day with her. It’s been a great day. She’s changed my world so much and she’s made me really re-think everything important in my life. It’s been a plesure to watch her learn and grow into the little person that she is now. It’s amazing to see her turn into a full functioning human. She’s the greatest thing to happen to me but the scariest thing too. To be responsible, to learn balance, to learn…

The 18-month old

The 18-month old

My baby (to be known as Tiny Tot) turned 1 and a half (in mom terms 18 months). I’ve never really had to opportunity to talk about her much on the blog because I didn’t think there was a place for it. Guess what? It’s the place for it now. I’ve been blessed to be able to spend time with my child and still work full-time. Sometimes it’s challenging and sometimes it’s just not easy. There are days when I do have to depend on the care of others to help me out, but for the most part, she’s with…

Giving up on THE goal

Giving up on THE goal

I’m not going to bury the lead today.  I’m not going to run the Chicago Marathon.  This is the post I’ve been struggling to write for the past two weeks.  This is the reason I’ve disappeared off social media.  This has been a huge source of sadness in my life. It’s like I gave up or something.  But I came to a point where I just physically couldn’t do the training. It makes me sad because this was a goal I set for myself.  I was running for the charity (Action for Healthy Kids) that I love and I still must…
