Hitting those September 2015 goals

It’s a new month and I’m actually kind of excited for everything to come.  The arrival of September is a relief (maybe the temperatures will go down) and excites me.  It’s been a long summer and September kind of means that summer is coming to a close.

I was pretty serious about doing these goal setting posts in the past but kind of fell off for one reason or anything.  I have to make it a point of doing these posts to remind myself of things I should strive towards in the future.  Also, it just helps to write these things down.  It’s a great tool that I preach to all you readers out there so if I want you to do it, I should do it myself.

One goal I had last month was to take my dog walks just to keep active.  I think I did a pretty great job of fitting those in and I will continue doing those walks.  The dogs are starting to expect them more and more now and I think they enjoy it more because it’s not so hot outside.

Here we go:

  1.  I need to work on getting more sleep.  I have been more energized to do a lot more things lately but I think my sleep schedule has taken the brunt of it.  A few weeks ago I talked about sleep debt and I’ve learned just how important it is to get sleep.  Those zzz’s are an important part of living a healthy life and it’s kind of gotten away from me. This might also mean I need to take a power nap in the middle of the day too. I have been tired and sluggish due to my lack of sleep and my next point.
  2. I need to drink more water.  There’s no way around this one.  Being tired is sometimes of sign that you’re not drinking enough water and I’ve been wanting to lounge around all the time. My water intake the past couple of weeks has turned into a slow clap so I know I need to make sure I always have a water bottle with me and I’m drinking the water that is in it.  It also wouldn’t hurt to eat a few more water dense foods like lettuce, watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc.
  3. Because I will be gone all of October, I want to make sure I have my meals together so I’m not constantly rushed so I think I’m going to try to plan out a month of meals.  Is this something  you would be interested in following the process?  This would be a complete month of meals with grocery lists and recipes?  As far as our diet is concerned, you probably missed the memo but it’s there.
  4. This is the hardest month of marathon training because race day is so near.  I want to make sure I stay on track and focused but still have a good time in the end.  I’ll refresh my running playlist and head out with the running group just to make sure it keeps a smile on my face and I stay focused.
  5. My Team Healthy Kids fundraiser last week was very successful.  I raised $75 for the cause but I need to keep it going.  I still haven’t reached my goals.  Every person who donates $10 or more will be entered into the contest for a $100 amazon gift card.  If you want to help fight childhood obesity through healthy meals and great health education in schools, please consider donating to a great cause.
  6. I teach indoor cycle classes on Tuesday and Thursday and I want to make sure my class stays fresh and exciting.  I’m going to revamp a lot of my playlist and try some different things.  Workouts can get stale and boring and I want to make sure everyone stays excited and energized about coming to class.
  7. Just have fun and enjoy life.  It’s been lacking in my life because I’ve been wrapped up and playing the victim.

Just in case you missed it, I posted a video yesterday. My daily life videos are longer than other videos just to let you know but those are longer because it’s DAILY LIFE.

What are your goals for September 2015? Are you working toward anything big or do you just have smaller more focused goals?

Motivation to find what you want.

Motivation to find what you want.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Things are good in life which really had me thinking, what do I want out of life? I am a very goal oriented person so I function best when I am building or working toward something. That’s just my nature. But have you ever really stop to think, “what do I want out of life?” The time to think about that thing is now. If you know what you want, then you’ll be more likely to go after it. There are people who talk about things they want out of…

Five Things Friday: The mailbox edition

Five Things Friday: The mailbox edition

Sorry for no blog yesterday, I really wasn’t feeling it.  I had a core workout I was going to share with the class, but my heart wasn’t in it. Thursday is usually the day I leave open to talk about life on the blog but it just wasn’t coming to me and putting in a core workout just didn’t seem…right. It was probably just a good day to take a break from blogging. It’s Five Things Friday but I only have one thing to tell you. Today I am here to tell you that I’m reopening the mailbox!  This means I will…

WIAW: Lots of salad or nothing at all

WIAW: Lots of salad or nothing at all

Hello all! Happy Wednesday. I wasn’t going to do this post because I really haven’t wanted to eat much of anything since the race on Saturday. I have to set reminders for meal time. I just haven’t been hungry. But I have all these food pictures so it’s only right for a What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW). On Thursday night, I threw together a stir fry. Willie made some really yummy food last week but on this particular night I wanted something else. This is what I threw together very quickly. Friday night I went to Salata to get a salad…

Eggland’s Best Eggs: a nutrient dense food

Eggland’s Best Eggs: a nutrient dense food

Nutrient dense foods vs. empty calories is something I’ve been wanting to address on the blog for a long time. I don’t know why I haven’t done it before now. It’s summer and I’m training for a marathon (SHOCKER!) and it’s important for me to get all the great nutrients out of my food that I possibly can…especially now that we’ve switched to a plant-based diet. The harder the workouts, the more I need to replace all that stuff leaving my body. Food is fuel and that is something you should remember when you’re consuming your calories.  Food fuels our…

Meal Prep: Meatloaf all week

Meal Prep: Meatloaf all week

Hey all!  I hope you’re having a great day and enjoying the food that you’re eating.  I know I am.  I wanted to share some tips on making leftovers new again.  I know people who CAN NOT eat the same foods day in and day out.  I am not one of those people.  I am a creature of habit and it really won’t bother me to eat the same meal all week.  That’s probably why I consider meal prepping easy. I’ve been eating the same breakfast everyday for a LONG time.  Some people can’t do that so I want to…

Be true to yourself

Be true to yourself

Excuse me for a moment while I set the mood. Play the song and read the blog post: I haven’t been true to myself.  I think I’ve been playing.  I’ve been trying a little to hard to be someone that I am not.  At the root of it all, I am still the same person but with some better attributes.  I think I lost myself.  Lately, I’ve found myself unhappy, stressed, confused, indecisive, scattered, negative and unfocused.  I don’t really feel like I’ve been myself this year at all.  I’ve been floundering; I’ve been hiding. It’s time to put an…

WIAW: This week’s eats and the leftover

Hello all.  This week I’m linking up with Peas and Crayongs for WIAW to share what we are eating this week. This week it was all about the leftovers.  I hate wasting food.  The prices at the grocery store seems to be rising so wasting the moolah on food just makes me upset.  Luckily, we had plenty of stuff leftover from last week that I was able to make new this week.  In my opinion, I think it turned out better this week. There is video: Here is a closer look at what we prepped this week: Breakfast is always the same…

Surround yourself with positive people.

Surround yourself with positive people.

Please surround yourself with positive people who see greatness. This is one lesson I have learned this year.  Positive energy is important and situating yourself around people who are doing something will indeed motivate and inspire you to explore things you never thought possible. Just think about it, if you continue living life every day in a negative situation, you will more than likely develop a negative attitude.  The sky will never be blue enough.  The stars will never shine bright enough for you.  The bad days morph into even worse days. This is just one reason to fill your…

Five Things Friday: Things I Want To Try

Five Things Friday: Things I Want To Try

Welcome to this week’s edition of Five Things Friday.  I’m talking about the things I want to to try.  There’s nothing really outlandish going on here, but there is some interesting stuff on this list…well at least to me. I don’t know what has stopped me from trying these things, but something has.  Maybe I should get to the root of the problem or just skip that part and just start trying stuff. I won’t waste any more of your time, so I’ll just get to the list. 1. A zumba class. Technically, I’ve gone to a Zumba class BUT…

Stop, drop and smile.

Stop, drop and smile.

Things haven’t been great lately and I got bogged down in some negative energy. And then work happened and it got really busy and I didn’t have enough time to really blog. Today’s message: You’re never fully dressed without a smile. It’s not a completely an original idea. But it’s a theory I want to carry over into this Monday. It’s time to start fresh and to start anew. It’s time to smile, again.  The act of smiling can change your whole world in the blink of an eye. A smile breeds positivity. Why should you turn that frown upside…
