Week in review: best friends, grapes and the half ironman

Happy Friday y’all.  I don’t know about you but I’m glad it’s Friday.  I’ve been really busy at work so life has been a bit hectic this week.  It hasn’t been a bad week at all, but it hasn’t been the best week of my life either…it’s just a week!

Yesterday I did have a chance to catch up with one of my best friends.  It’s been a while since I’ve seen her so it was nice just to talk.  I guess we’ll just call September best friend reunion month because I haven’t seen any of them in awhile but I’ll get to see all of them this month.

Yes these #grapes do taste like #cottoncandy but I'm not willing to pay $4.99/pound for that. #fruit #cheapo #imcheap #foodstagram #instafood

I also spotted these cotton candy grapes at the grocer.  EVERYONE has been raving about them because the grapes taste like cotton candy.  This I know, because I took a sample.  It was good and then I looked at the price tag.  Those grapes are $4.99/pound and you know that bag probably had 2-3 pounds of grapes in it.  I’m cheap.  I can’t justify that purchase.

On Sunday, Willie had a little heart to heart with me.  He told me that this time last year I said I would do a half ironman and now the time has come and I’m not anywhere close to it.  He was very honest and he’s right.  I should have tried harder.  I should have pushed myself a little bit more but I didn’t.  I gave up because it didn’t come easy, but that’s not right.  That’s against everything that I preach, right? I promised him that I would try and that next year I will do my half ironman!  With that being said, my training is going to change. I really want to be a triathlete and I need to make it happen.  I’m just going to need a little push from my husband.

Every week I’ll be going through my workouts and linking up to Stephanie from Athlete at Heart.  So here we go:

Sunday: Rest Day

Monday: 4 mile run and Group Power

Tried to hot the pool but it was overly packed. Not the best environment for someone who isn't a strong swimmer. I'll try again later!

Tuesday: Taught my freestyle cycle class. Tried to go to the pool but it was jammed packed. This was kind of blow for me because I really had to work up the nerve to go.

Good #run! #fitfluential #ffcheckin #runhappy #workout #speedwork #sweatpink what did u do today?

Wednesday: 5 AM Group Power and 6 mile run!

I really love my job! I wake up early to motivate others to #workout. These ppl don't really know they inspire and motivate me to be better every day! I really enjoyed teaching #groupride this morning! #whyimove #fitfluential #ffcheckin #sweatpink #iambft
Thursday: Taught 5AM Group Ride. I really love my job! I wake up early to motivate others to workout. These people don’t really know they inspire and motivate me to be better every day!

Very humid this morning I struggled a bit and I had to do a wardrobe change. Started on the road and then moved to the treadmill and finished on the road. Now it's on to work! I need some #chocolatemilk. #teamchocolatemilk #maratgontraining #fitfluential
Friday: 12 mile run because I didn’t want to have to wake up early tomorrow.  I’m feeling a bit lazy so I thought I would knock it today.

Saturday: 4-5 mile recovery run.

What I learned this week?  I love to run but I need to add more into my workouts.  I don’t want to get complacent and I don’t want to get bored or burned out.  I need to make sure I hit my Centergy classes and find something else to do.  I’m committing to making a change.

What was your best workout this week? Do you have any plans for the weekend?

Give group fitness a try.

Give group fitness a try.

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I’m still trying to get in the swing of things.  I don’t know I just feel off this week.  I haven’t been hungry and I’ve been a little tired.  Maybe it’s because it’s a million degrees outside.  All I know is, I’m just trying to stay hydrated! When I’m feeling down in the dumps, I’m always grateful for group fitness.  It forces me to be around people, when I don’t want and group fitness pushes me in a workout. Just think about it? If you’re having a low energy day and decide to hit the treadmill, are…

Race recap: Frozen Hot Chocolate 10K – Austin

Race recap: Frozen Hot Chocolate 10K – Austin

My best friend Melissa is a sucker for chocolate.  I told her about these races and I was pleased to see one coming to Austin so I asked her if she wanted to do a race.  Of course, she was happy to do it.  She will run for chocolate. I like running 10K because it’s short of “longish” for a run!  I woke up Saturday to run 6.5 miles before the race so I could get my miles in.  This wasn’t anything serious for me.  I was really doing this race for fun and to hang out with my friend.…

Running a bit behind

Running a bit behind

This past weekend put me a little behind on the food prep thing which in turn has kind of made life a little harder. This weekend I ran one of those Hot Chocolate races and it wasn’t a good experience. I’ll put that in a separate post for the interested parties later. But that meant we weren’t home to do our Sunday morning grocery shopping. Well, in this case we did do it, just in another city. I guess that speaks to how hardcore we actually are about our shopping. But when we returned, I had a staff meeting at…

Zucchini and Summer Squash Fritters

Zucchini and Summer Squash Fritters

Every time I got on instagram someone was posting pictures of zucchini fritters.  I’ve never had a zucchini fritter in my life and I definitely didn’t know how to make them. I thought I would give it a go on my own terms but first I needed to know the basic of a fritter. So I made a traditional fritter without frying it. Apparently, a fritter is fried. I don’t do fried or oil! The traditional fritter has all purpose flour, butter, cheese and is fried in oil. Once again, I “pan fried” these with a simple cooking spray. And…

A week in review: washing machines and workouts

A week in review: washing machines and workouts

Happy Friday everyone!  This has been the LONGEST short week of my life.  I’ve been finding it hard to push through this week so I’m definitely glad to have made it to Friday.  I wanted to share some of my highlights from the week.  Sadly, I don’t have many HIGHlights but there are a few. First off, last Friday I went to wash clothes and something bad happened. This is totally not health and fitness related. This happened. The timer dial wasn’t engaging. I must tell you this is a hand me down washer but FREE is always the best…

Dos and don’ts of strength training

Dos and don’ts of strength training

I’m not expert but I had to figure a couple of things out on my own. (Always remember to consult your physician before starting a new diet and/or workout routine.) I wanted to share with you some of my personal rules for strength training. Incorporating strength training into your fitness routine will only make you stronger and better. Whatever goal you’re trying to reach, these workouts will help you get there. But first, it’s time for a little personal time. This morning was the first day back into a new/old routine. I try to change my workouts up just a…

Do you drink tea? What I learned at Celestial Seasonings.

I’m a serious tea drinker! I will go to Teavana and spend all my money without knowing it. That tea is EXPENSIVE so I don’t buy it that often. I do love all kinds of tea though which is why I was excited for my trip to Denver a couple of weeks ago. I made a trip to the Celestial Seasonings home in Boulder, CO!  This is the place where they do everything. There is only one location for this company and everything is done here.  I was super excited to visit this place. I took the tea tour which…

The lifestyle change is DIFFERENT for EVERYONE

The lifestyle change is DIFFERENT for EVERYONE

It’s different for everyone and it’s going to change over time.  Keep that in mind.  I’ve said it many many times.  The journey I took is different from the one Willie took and will be different from the one many people take. A lifestyle change is about developing new habits.  In our case, our lifestyle change was about developing HEALTHIER habits than what we did before.  McDonald’s drive thru and movie marathons for the weekend soon became weekend running and enjoying a good healthy meal. Losing 100+ pounds takes time and commitment.  That has to come from within yourself. No…

Sunday set up: meatballs, egg muffins, raw “cookie dough”

Happy Sunday!  That means it’s time for meal prepping in our house.  This week I’ve been feeling uninspired with the meals.  We didn’t even make a grocery list when we headed to the store. It’s my job to deal with the lunch and Willie deals with the dinner.  Collectively we do breakfast and we each like different snacks so we do our own snacks. Breakfast: Egg white muffins and overnight oats. We’ve been eating the same thing for breakfast everyday for almost two years. It’s quick and easy and we can take it with us if we need. Lunch: Meatballs,…
