I run because…

National Running DayToday is National Running Day!  What a great day to celebrate running and why people choose to run. I’ve never really talked about why I run so this gives me the perfect opportunity to tell the world.  In 2013, I’ve run five half marathons, two 10Ks, one 10 milers, one 5K and logged many miles on the road in my free time.  This year I became a runner!

I run for many reasons.  I run because I never thought I would be able to because of my weight.  I never thought I would shed the weight and be able to get out there.  The thought of running 13.1 miles was daunting and 26.2 seemed impossible.  I’ve conquered the half and I’m working my way to a full marathon.  Things have changed!

I run to be apart of a community.  Words never need to be spoken between us runners.  We silently and not so silently cheer each other on.  We push each other to the next level and to break through walls.  This year I’ve made a lot of new friends through running.  The running community is supportive and the greatest group of people I’ve met in a very long time.  Some people started out as my running club but now are my friends.

I run because I like to be outside.  I spent many years wasting my time on the couch watching television.  I didn’t spend enough time outside.  Running allows me to be outside and appreciate the great place where I live.

I run because I want to be fit.  Being active is a huge part of the people Willie and I both are.  Running is just another part of us now.  Without it, I wouldn’t be the person I am.  I love running!

I run to achieve!  There is no better feeling than crossing the finish line at a race and collecting that medal (if there is one).  The whole process is life changing.  The feeling of accomplishment is amazing! Running allows me to set goals and achieve them.

Most importantly, I continue to run every day to inspire those who are held back by their weight.  When you’re overweight, no one expects you to lose the weight and they definitely don’t expect you to achieve anything.  But when someone decides to really lose the weight, nothing can stand in their way.  I run for all those who haven’t gotten to that point yet but are working their way there. I run for all those people who constantly knock people down instead of building them up!

I run because I love it and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Why do you run?

Let’s kick tragedy in the face

Let’s kick tragedy in the face

We are runners!  I am proud to say this and I’m even more proud that I can say WE are runners!  The blog has been left silent for a couple of days because we have been busy doing some amazing things.  Now is not the time to talk about those things, because of the horrible things that happened in Boston yesterday.  It breaks our hearts to know people were out there doing something they trained and worked so hard for and someone took their lives…and their family’s lives. It’s hard to grasp! The running community is strong and we all…
