Happy New Year! Are you buying into the hype?

Happy New Year!  I hope it’s been a great start to the year for you.  I wanted to pop in on the blog because this is the day everyone is trying to get their messages out into the world.  If I read one more post about setting goals and making resolutions, I think I might freak out.  That’s funny coming from me, right?  My blog is supposed to be about finding your best self, going after what you want, and just accomplishing something.

The new year doesn’t mean you needed to have everything figured out on this day.  The new year doesn’t magically make you a new person.  The new year doesn’t make us superheroes.  What the new year does is change the clock of time and gives us 365 days to do something different or better or the same as we did the year before.

New Year hype

Your year doesn’t have to start today.  You do have time to think about what it is you want to do.

Guess what?  You also don’t have to have mega goals or even have goals in the new year.  Sometimes it’s ok to take a break from setting goals or aiming towards something.  I am an extremely goal oriented person and I like to have goals to keep me on track; to make me work for something.  I learned last year, maybe I just needed to take a break from trying to do something and just give myself time to figure things out.

Everything I accomplished last year didn’t even come into my mind until July. I needed to figure things out before I decided which direction I should take for the future.

Taking a break from goal setting might be the best thing you can do for yourself.  But if you choose to do that, please don’t complain about how you’re not going anywhere or doing anything.  It’s ok to just be ok.

If you’re not in the place to start something right now, don’t feel pressured to do it because everyone else is doing it.  You do not have to have it all figured out right now.  If you do choose to set goals, make sure those are goals that are obtainable and have benchmarks along the way that can measure your success.

A new year brings new adventures, new roads to travel, and new ideas.  Take the time to enjoy your next 365 days of the year and if you choose to accomplish something take it on!  Happy New Year!

Are you goal oriented?  Are you making goals for the new year?
