New year and new goals

Happy New Year! I usually don’t make it midnight but I had to wake up to feed Baby G and I really wanted to bring in the New Year with her.

My new year situation never included a big party, but this is probably the biggest party I’ve ever had.

It’s that time of year when people embrace the new year, new goals thing. It’s great that people can see a new year as a new beginning. I encourage you to think of it the same way from week to week. There are people who are anti-new year resolutions and that’s ok, but it’s important to start off the new year with some goals.

Why is it important to start off the new year with goals? Because it will give you something to gauge your progress throughout the year. Plus, I like being able to see what worked and what didn’t work at the end of the year. Having clearly defined goals from the start will aid in that process.

Do I need to set my goals right now? I know people feel pressure to set their goals for January 1st. I don’t think it’s necessary to have your goals set on the first day of the year. It doesn’t mean you’re any more together than anyone else. There is nothing wrong with taking the time to really think about what you want to accomplish in the new year. Rushing to set your goals may cause you to set goals that are out of reach or just to simple to achieve. Really take the time to set your goals.

Is it ok to set my goals right now?  There’s no time frame of when you should set your goals.  Some people have been thinking about what they want to accomplish in the new year for months.  Others don’t start thinking about it until now.  If you’re ready to set your goals and put your plan into action, then go for it.

My biggest piece of advice I can give for setting your new goals is to make sure there are ways for you to set mini goals in pursuit of your main goals.  Being able to set those mini goals along the way will help you stay focused and will give you lots of encouragement on the journey to achieving your big goal.  Also, don’t forget to write your goals down somewhere as a reminder.  There are plenty of times when you may forget what your exact goal is along the way.  Take the time to write your goals down in a place that you can revisit with as much detail as possible.

I wish you all good luck and prosperity in the new year.  I know I’m not ready to map out my goals right now, so it will be something I’ll be thinking about.  I have an idea, but I need to narrow my focus a bit.  I don’t want to try to do too much and get discouraged. Let the goal setting begin.

Are you ready to set your new year goals right now?

Tips to avoid the new work out burn out

It’s the beginning of the year and a LOT of people have resolved to get fit. That’s how the year always starts off right? People flocking to the gym, getting gym memberships and flaking out come February. Those people never see the gym until January of the following year when they plan to do it all over again. All I have to say is: the treadmills and elliptical are packed at my gym around 5:30pm! On a side note, don’t be mean to the new people at the gym.  These people are coming to the gym to accomplish the same…

A new year of goals

A new year of goals

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2014 and all that comes with it.  Last year was great but I want to make this year even better. I started off my morning with a 7.70 mile run.  If I would have known I was that close to 8 miles I would have kept going. We ran the resolution run with our friends to start off the year. I ran a little over 3 miles before we left home to meet the running group. I did a little bit more before the running group started and finished with the group. To my surprise,…
