Willie and I always said when we lost the weight, we would do some things like go to China, travel more and go zip lining. I’m two years past hitting my goal weight and we still didn’t zip line. Today we finally enjoyed the view from the tree tops at Shelby Farms. The non scale victory really came because it was great to not have anyone question our weight and we were just normal.
We actually planned to go in Chattanooga but we canceled those plans and decided to come to Memphis. This was the biggest thing we had planned for this trip!
When we arrived they overloaded us with information and I was kind of nervous. I thought it was going to be a little bit more hands on with people on course to help. I didn’t realize that we would have to navigate the course by ourselves and hook and unhook ourselves. It was kind of nerve-wracking.
We proceeded on and it was kind of hard to take pictures on course because I didn’t bring my tough camera. That was a big mistake. I went ahead of Willie so I got more pictures of him. The first thing that was scary was a tarzan swing where we have to step off the platform and catch a cargo net. It was scary. I had the hardest time stepping off the platform because I didn’t know how the harness would catch me. After I contemplated it for a second, I took the step and realized it wasn’t that bad.
This is Willie climbing his way to the first zip line.
The next thing after the swing was our first zip line and I had to think about stepping off the platform again. It was a step into the unknown. I almost lost my favorite hat on the way down, but I made it. After that it was all fun. The actual zip lining parts of the course became my favorite.
There were some routes that you could take the easier route or take a harder course. Most of the time I took the easy route until the next to last obstacle. It was a tarzan swing that was very deceiving. It was a long steep swing and it was scary. When I got off, I was shaking. I didn’t want to go on the course and only take the easy routes. I wanted the challenge and I wanted to do push past my comfort zone.
This was what it was all about for both of us. Doing something different and pushing our limits. Today we did and it was great. This was just a great way to celebrate and appreciate our weight loss. It’s the small things that mean the most. I’m an very glad that I got to share this with Willie.
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! This is how we celebrated our day.
How did you celebrate the 4th of July?
