Five Things Friday #1

I know it’s not the first Five Things Friday I’ve done but I’m starting over to keep them a bit more organized.  I never know what to call them anyway so a number system will be best. It’s been a long week and I’m pretty sure I’m long overdue for a rest day. It will come.

My new project is Mom Works It Out. So I started a new blog about being a mom and every other part of lifestyle besides the health and fitness stuff. I fully understand that you are here because you heard our weight loss story. I don’t want to fill this blog with things that you may not be interested in. I want to give you the option to read about it, instead of just shoving it down your throat. If you want to check out my new blog and social media accounts, please do. I’ll be talking about more things than just eating, motivation and working out. It will be a complete life forum for me. Like, how Baby G is tugging on my arm as I’m trying to smash out a blog post really quick.

I’ve been working on my strength training. It’s amazing how much muscle mass I lost during pregnancy so it’s been my goal to get it back. I’ve been getting my butt up every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the past 6 weeks to go to Group Power. It’s paying off. Within two weeks I noticed a big difference and now I’m just trying to stay with the program. It’s really been helping with my running too. Small changes mean big steps forward! (FYI:  I just realized how dirty my mirror is in the bathroom.  Don’t judge me for that.)

Anyways, I think we all underestimate how important strength training is in our workout schedules.  It’s kind of always been an afterthought for me which is why I’ve been making it a priority lately.  Most days I’m only guaranteed one workout so sometimes Group Power is all I get.  It’s probably the most important workout I have all week.  There’s nothing sexy about it.  The calorie burn isn’t the same as doing high impact cardio but it’s a necessary part of my wellness plan.

Untitled The jogging stroller had a blow out the other day. We were a bit stranded on the street and a neighbor tried to help. I had to get to tube replaced and Graco ended up sending a new front wheel. Basically, I’m going to need to get a new air pump because the front wheel is so small. It’s hard to get a pump head to got in there.

I was super upset when I couldn’t put air in the tire because I like to go for walks in the afternoon if I’m not running. Most evenings I have Baby G by myself and it’s not like I can leave her at home. I was worried this was going to sideline me until we got a replacement part so I was eager to get this fixed.

I got a new water bottle for travel which has now become my new favorite thing. I purchased a 18oz Hydroflask and I’m in love. I’ve been using a Yeti cup forever but it’s hard to travel with. This Hydroflask can fit in the stroller/diaper bag and everywhere I need it to go. I’ve been using it with my workouts, too.

The sandwich craving was strong this week. I thought about going to the grocery store to just buy stuff to make sandwiches but I settled on Jason’s Deli roast beef. It’s such a simple thing but it’s so good! It was probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life…or maybe I was just hungry! Whichever it was, I ate it two days in a row.

Here are some things I’ve been digging this week.  What’s been on your radar this week?

FAQ: My workout routine

FAQ: My workout routine

I’ve been getting a lot of e-mail and messages about my food and my workout routine. This morning I thought I would talk about my workout routine and how it’s changed from the beginning our journey to now. I want to first note I am not a doctor or expert on the subject and if you are planning on taking up a exercise routine or diet you should consult a physician first. The first day we went to the gym, I hopped on the treadmill for thirty minutes and no incline. I just walked at a pace that was good…
