4 Discreet Ways Parents Can Help Their Child Learn

Helping your child to learn doesn’t always need to be obvious or a formal lesson. Here are four discreet ways parents can help their children learn. Incorporating learning into your life can help you not only take the pressure away from them but also make it fun and easy for them.

People say everything is a learning opportunity, and for young children, it is never true; they can learn in so many ways, and young minds are like sponges soaking up all of the information.

4 Discreet Ways Parents help kids learn

If you want to help your child learn in a more fun and engaging way without them even realizing it, these tips can help.

Read To Them and with Them

Another way parents can help their children learn is by having reading time.  Reading is one of the best ways you can help your child to learn.  Not only will they get that bonding experience with you, but they’ll also be exposed to the world, writing, characters, a new world, different adventures, and more park tiger imagination. And even if they cannot read themselves, allowing them to recite the story they love or “read” their interpretation back to you can help them create essential pathways in the brain that are vital in assisting them to learn. Never underestimate the power of reading to or with your child.

Learn Through Touch and Play

While every play opportunity doesn’t need to be a learning experience, it can be a helpful way to help your child pick up new information, even if it’s what happens when you mix two different colors of Play-Doh! This type of teaching embraces the tactile kinesthetic learning style, which is learning through touch, movement, and physical activity. Get your child to create the number 1 using toys or blocks, etc, or group their toys into different amounts; you can even have them count how long it takes to put toys away once they finish playing.

Answer Questions

Talk to your children when they ask questions and give them answers they can understand on an age-appropriate level. The more you can teach them when they ask, the more inquisitive they will be, knowing you will listen and help them, not just brush the question away or ignore them. Allowing your child to ask questions is still an excellent way to help your child learn and gather information, as well as to support their communication and interaction skills. Question and answer time is a fun way parents can help their children learn.

Gamification

Gamification is the use of games and technology to help your child learn. While screens and young children are often a hotly contested topic for many parents, there is no denying that screens are a big part of our lives, and introducing them to your children when you are ready can have massive benefits. Educational games can help your child to learn through play and develop problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills, all while learning. There is no harm in finding suitable games or apps for your child to play digitally if they support their learning for a short time that works for you and them.

Children learn in many different ways, and channeling this enthusiasm for learning into what you do daily can help give them a head start without realizing it. The more fun and creative it is, the less it will feel like learning, even though that’s what they are doing.

Let’s Move! Turns 4

The First Lady’s big push to end childhood obesity, Let’s Move!, turned 4 yesterday! On Wednesday I had an opportunity to speak with Executive Director of Let’s Move!, Sam Kass, about the program and where they want the program to go in the future! The childhood obesity rate has decreased since the start of the program and this is something they want to keep going in the future.  It’s the gift that keeps giving! Childhood obesity is something that weighs heavily on my heart! I was always the “bigger” kid growing up and it was cool back then, but when…
