Happy Monday, y’all! It’s been a minute since I hit the blog because I am trying to get things moving in the right direction. Which is exactly what I want to talk about today: being better than yesterday.
That is my motto. That phrase is the thing that gets me up in the morning and motivated in my daily pursuits.
Even if it’s just a fraction of change, I want to be better than yesterday.
Yesterday, I ran a 10K. I had high hopes for this race, but it didn’t work for me. I thought it was going to rain and it did but then it stopped so the humidity was in full force. I couldn’t handle it because I’m still adjusting. I was forced to walk A LOT in the last two miles. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement but that will just fuel my future runs as I get stronger.
I’m almost 6 months post baby and I’m still adjusting. My weight is coming down and I’m getting stronger every day. I have to remember that I’m not going to go back to the athlete I was before, I will be different but that’s not always a bad thing.
It’s all about being better than I was yesterday. Yesterday, I wasn’t the fastest I’ve been since having the baby. Yesterday, I did manage to run a little farther than I did before. It was a small difference but I was better than the day before.
Those are the things you have to search for in every situation. In times of success, it will be easier to point out your change but I encourage you to dig deeper. In times of failure, even when you feel like nothing went right there is something that did go right…it’s just way below the surface.
Those things that are found can be beneficial to your journey. Use those moments not just as benchmarks but confidence boosters to keep moving forward.
We all can be better than our yesterday. It’s really just a matter of thinking.
How are you being better than your yesterday?
