New year and new goals

Happy New Year! I usually don’t make it midnight but I had to wake up to feed Baby G and I really wanted to bring in the New Year with her.

My new year situation never included a big party, but this is probably the biggest party I’ve ever had.

It’s that time of year when people embrace the new year, new goals thing. It’s great that people can see a new year as a new beginning. I encourage you to think of it the same way from week to week. There are people who are anti-new year resolutions and that’s ok, but it’s important to start off the new year with some goals.

Why is it important to start off the new year with goals? Because it will give you something to gauge your progress throughout the year. Plus, I like being able to see what worked and what didn’t work at the end of the year. Having clearly defined goals from the start will aid in that process.

Do I need to set my goals right now? I know people feel pressure to set their goals for January 1st. I don’t think it’s necessary to have your goals set on the first day of the year. It doesn’t mean you’re any more together than anyone else. There is nothing wrong with taking the time to really think about what you want to accomplish in the new year. Rushing to set your goals may cause you to set goals that are out of reach or just to simple to achieve. Really take the time to set your goals.

Is it ok to set my goals right now?  There’s no time frame of when you should set your goals.  Some people have been thinking about what they want to accomplish in the new year for months.  Others don’t start thinking about it until now.  If you’re ready to set your goals and put your plan into action, then go for it.

My biggest piece of advice I can give for setting your new goals is to make sure there are ways for you to set mini goals in pursuit of your main goals.  Being able to set those mini goals along the way will help you stay focused and will give you lots of encouragement on the journey to achieving your big goal.  Also, don’t forget to write your goals down somewhere as a reminder.  There are plenty of times when you may forget what your exact goal is along the way.  Take the time to write your goals down in a place that you can revisit with as much detail as possible.

I wish you all good luck and prosperity in the new year.  I know I’m not ready to map out my goals right now, so it will be something I’ll be thinking about.  I have an idea, but I need to narrow my focus a bit.  I don’t want to try to do too much and get discouraged. Let the goal setting begin.

Are you ready to set your new year goals right now?

Motivation Monday: Patience is key

Motivation Monday: Patience is key

The year is winding down and it’s the time to reflect on all the great things you did this year.  I truly hope it’s been a great year for you and you have made the progress you desired at the start of the year.  Even if you didn’t reach all of your goals doesn’t mean it’s still not going to happen.  Patience is key and things take time, a person just needs to stay the course. I know what you’re thinking, “it’s easier said than done.” That’s the absolute truth, it’s easy to think those things but putting it into…

Friday Five: Turkey burgers, headbands, working out & more

Happy Friday!  I hope all is well in the world with you.  I felt like I had a really productive morning but then the afternoon seems a little less eventful.  I guess you could say I spent it on the couch sleeping. I thought I should sit down and blog since I’m feeling up to it and I’m well rested. So there’s a blog and some hot chocolate…and here I am. I think it’s a good way to spend a Friday. 1. Today I’m officially 38 weeks which means our baby girl should be making her grand debut soon.  FYI:…

Motivation to get back on track

Motivation to get back on track

It’s the holidays and people seem to get off track during this time.  For me, I’m dealing with a big event coming my way.  My focus has just been getting something in my tummy and I’ve been GREAT for the most part.  But with our little girl on the way, I’m trying to get back on track so I can stay healthy and get lose this baby weight. I’ve learned that in the past making a plan is the most effective way to accomplish a goal. It’s easier to stay focused and on track that way. I know it worked…

Motivation Monday: Concentrate on what you have

Motivation Monday: Concentrate on what you have

Happy Monday!  I hope things are starting off right for you today.  This post will be short but I wanted to share with you a message of concentrating on what you have and value your worth.  I’ve gone through a period of time of not realizing my worth and questioning things that haven’t happened in my life.  What I’ve learned is that is a waste of time.  Don’t make that mistake. It’s important to be thankful for everything that you are and currently possess instead of longing for the things you are not and don’t have. Those things will come…

Pregnancy and the fitness instructor

Pregnancy and the fitness instructor

I wanted to write this post last Thursday but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I stopped teaching my cycle class last week. I’ve heard the stories of people teaching until their 8th month or teaching right up until the end. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t stay in that long. The truth: I could have kept teaching my cycle class, but I chose to leave for one reason. Yes everyone knows that I’m pregnant and is very understanding about it all. As time progressed, I knew I couldn’t keep up the way I once did.…

The struggle is real but…

The struggle is real but…

The struggle is real to workout, eat right and just stay focused.  But there are other things in life that we all struggle with that sometimes makes things seems harder than usual, right?  I’m here to tell you to not let the struggle take over you.  The struggle is real but you can get through it. Sometimes we see struggle as a sign of weakness in ourselves, but we must realize that struggle is a natural part of life.  Without the struggle, we wouldn’t appreciate the joys of accomplishments.  Without the struggle, we definitely wouldn’t look back at the road…

Nothing is impossible

Nothing is impossible

It’s been said that Willie and I accomplished the impossible by losing so much weight and working hard to keep it off. I never saw it was something as impossible. I never saw it as something that we couldn’t accomplish in time. I never saw it as something that we couldn’t achieve. Nothing is impossible. Some things may take extra steps for achievement or may take longer than we may like, but you will still get there. Think of it as a ladder, you start at the bottom and work your way to the top one step at a time.…

Transform your thinking to be grateful

Transform your thinking to be grateful

My blogging schedule has been interuptted by the Olympics. I love the Olympics so hard that I spend all my free time watching it.  Diving, archery, rowing, fencing, volleyball (surprisingly), gymnastics and weightlifting have been occupying my time.  I’m sorry for all the delays.  This post should have been up yesterday.  Now back to blogging. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes spend so much dwelling on the things I haven’t done or don’t have.  It can really set your mind back and it lessens the accomplishments that I have achieved.  I blogged about how pregnancy messed with weight…

My pledge to my blog readers

My pledge to my blog readers

It’s time for me to face reality.  I’ve failed all of you.  Once upon a time I planned out blog posts.  I talked about relevant topics.  I actually put the effort in and then something happened.  I started traveling more and doing quick fixes.  I stopped actually making time for the blog in respects to self-improvement, eating and just overall fitness.  I wish I could say planning was the problem, but I know I felt like I lost my voice along the way. Willie and I gained a lot of publicity in a short period of time, again, which kind…
