Why I don’t track my food anymore

I know I’ve talked about how we tracked our food using Lose It! to lose weight the first time around. It was completely helpful and a good tool for me at the time. But I had to step away from tracking my food because even after I hit my weight loss goal I was tracking my food the same way. It became a very serious part of my life that I became too neurotic about.

No lie, I would hit my calories for the day and feel guilty about being hungry. It took me a long time to transition from weight loss mode to maintenance mode which took a toll on my mental health. It’s just not something I think I can feel comfortable doing right now.

I do recommend tracking food for anyone on a weight loss journey. The biggest thing about a weight loss journey is learning portions and a basic understanding of nutrition so that you can trust your gut down the line to eat without going off the rails. I’ve been through the process and I know I’ve educated myself along the way to make the smart choices 80% of the time. That other 20% is no big deal because I don’t want to deprive myself of things I want.

On my weight loss journey, the things I wanted to eat changed over time and that’s another reason I can trust my eating habits. I stopped wanting to snack on fast food fries and shakes and started craving other things

I’m at a point in my life right now where I do need to lose some weight. I am losing my pregnancy weight but I know I could be more diligent about it if I tracked my food. It’s just not a road I think I’m ready to venture down again. I’m already adjusting to so many new things in life and this could be something that would lead to problems in my life.

I feel comfortable not tracking my food because I pretty much eat the same thing every day. I don’t really go off the rails and I eat things that I am comfortable eating. Yes, I should probably lay off the tots I make in my air fryer, even the veggie tots too. But on a daily basis, I do feel comfortable with my diet.

After having the baby it was hard to even eat. Now things are different. I’m starting to get my routine down and it’s easier now to sit down…or remembering to eat. That is a real thing; forgetting to eat. I still have my days when I skip a meal or don’t drink enough, but that is up to me to really make it happen.

I’ve been doing good though. I’ve lost most of the pregnancy weight. I might be off 6 or 7 pounds but I’ll get there. I just need to put a little more focus in and just trust myself.

Like I mentioned before, I do HIGHLY recommend using an app like Lose It or My Fitness Pal to keep track of what you’re eating.  I also recommend being honest on what you’re eating and to mark everything down.

Three things to overcome during weight loss journey

Three things to overcome during weight loss journey

Anyone who has tried to lose weight knows the process isn’t easy. It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to lose 30 pounds or 130 pounds. There are just some things that will get your frustrated along the way. I’m currently trying to lose my pregnancy weight so this is something that is fresh on my mind and I thought it would be a great topic to talk about on the blog. Problem #1: Avoiding the social eating. Everyone wants to celebrate with food. Birthdays, holidays, because it’s Monday…or it’s Taco Tuesday, means there’s always some social event to celebrate WITH… View Post

Progress will come

Progress will come

Progress is moving forward, moving toward achieving a goal.  Progress is always welcome but doesn’t always come easy. There are a few things I am currently working on: Trying to lose my pregnancy weight. Find the balance and time to get my workouts in on a consistent basis. Getting back into running…at the pace I’m more familiar running. There have been times when I’ve felt completely helpless during this time and there have been the moments when I thought I was taking steps backward.  When progress doesn’t show its face, its hard to find the motivation to keep moving forward.… View Post

Five Things Friday: finally blogging edition

Five Things Friday: finally blogging edition

I feel like I’m sneaking to blog.  It’s in the wee hours of the morning but I need to get this in.  Last week I made the mistake of blogging about nonsense and then the baby woke up so I didn’t get to finish the post.  It’s sad, but I’m already wasting time.  Let’s get with it: Running.  I’m starting to get back into it.  I’ve gone back to it and things are so much better. Granted, I’m a wee bit slower (like almost 4 minutes a mile slower) than what I use to be, but I’ll get back there.… View Post

Determined to lose this pregnancy weight

Determined to lose this pregnancy weight

I’m on a mission to lose my pregnancy weight.  I wish it would just roll off but it’s not. I have to admit I am really uncomfortable in my skin right now.  It’s bothering me so much but things will get better.  The first thing I did to make myself feel “normal” again was to get out of the maternity clothes.  The pregnant look was cute for me when I was pregnant; not so much anymore. How much weight am I trying to lose?  I’m trying to lose the 15 pounds left over from the baby and then I’ll work… View Post
