Veggie tots, what’s the deal?

If you follow me on Instagram stories (you totally should, username is webeatfat1) you have seen I’ve been trying out the veggie tots. I thought I should take one for the team so you don’t have to spend $3.50 if you don’t want to take the chance.

Don’t worry, I’m going to answer the big question:

I tried two versions of the veggie tots: broccoli and cauliflower veggie tots. FYI: These are not adult foods. This is a way for adults to sneak veggies to their kids and think nothing about it. I’m not saying adults won’t enjoy them, but this is a KIDS food.

I say this because the nutritional information behind this product isn’t bad, but it’s basically the same as eating a regular potato tot. You do get one full serving of veggies with each serving.  FYI:  It’s easy to bust the portions on these things.  Don’t get caught up in the fact that it’s a veggie tot because it’s still a processed vegetable.

I made my tots in my air fryer (link)! I still love that think.

After two weeks of deliberation, I have decided that I do like the veggie tots but I prefer the broccoli tots. I’ll be honest with you, they both kind of taste the same. It must be that modified corn starch thing the tots have going on to hold them together. Cauliflower tastes like nothing to me so I did like how the broccoli tots tasted like something.

I do think this would be an excellent kid food and an okay adult food.  The price is a little high for the amount you get, along with the serving size.  BUT I do think these are good.  Obviously, I still have the urge to buy them.  And I guess it’s a great way to cut back on the carbs.

Have you seen the veggie tots in stores?  Have you tried them?

My weight loss gamer changer

My weight loss gamer changer

For some reason people are saying that Willie and I were on The Biggest Loser. I’ve been stopped four times in two days of people asking me about the show. Sorry folks, we weren’t on that show. The social aspect of the show would have had us voted out in the very beginning. But the lovely lady at Sam’s Club did ask me what the biggest game changer in losing all the weight. I didn’t even flinch when she asked because I know portion control was the biggest learning experience of it. Please pay attention to portion sizes. Read the…

Friday happys for a Happy Friday

Friday happys for a Happy Friday

This week I haven’t really be into anything.  My mind is on Denver next week which kind of made this week kind of blah for me. I haven’t been motivated to do much so I’ve kind of just been off.  I probably just needed a little a reality break though.  I’ve still done my weekly workouts and celebrated birthdays so that’s been a major positive.  It’s just been a really down week as far as enthusiasm but not in spirit.  I’ve been hanging in there LIKE A BOSS! Sadly the blog has suffered…just a tiny bit. Here are a few…

Recipe: Some carrot thing I made the other day

I hope everyone is having a good day.  I think I’m a little worn out from my workout yesterday.  I’m feeling a little lazy so I’ll take it. My mid-week long run turned out longer than I expected. Let me tell you, I didn’t feel like I ran 8 miles until I tried to sneak those extra two in and then it felt like my feet were bricks. Anywho, last week I ran out of strawberries for my oatmeal. I only had enough for one person’s oatmeal so I gave them to Willie because I love him so much. FYI:…

Saturday salad because I’m obsessed

Saturday salad because I’m obsessed

I’ve had a mild obsession with salads lately.  I think it’s because Willie and I have been listening to food podcasts and talking about food.  In our house, endurance sports and cooking are the main topics. So I’ve been trying to come up with some salad ideas. I’ve also been told that I’m having iron issues so I’m trying to eat more leafy greens because apparently I don’t eat enough of them. I do this though so I don’t have to take those nasty iron pills. I present to you the baby kale and spinach salad: 1 package baby spinach…

My veggetti experience

My veggetti experience

Last week Jes and I purchased the veggetti.  I’d seen the veggetti before but I never remembered to pick it up when I was out.  We saw a commercial for it while we were eating dinner and immediately we went out to purchase one. It was a very exciting moment. I couldn’t wait to try it. So last night I tried it. The veggetti works very easily. Watch your fingers though at some points, but it’s nothing serious. I used zucchini and summer squash. It was on sale this week! It was fast and it left the veggies looking funny.…

Recipe: A quick roasted corn succotash

Recipe: A quick roasted corn succotash

I’ve been trying to come up with great veggie side dishes because that’s mostly what I eat.  People seemed so focused on the meat main event, but I’m not a huge meat eater.  I do prefer my meat on the side because I classify myself as a flexitarian. I would probably not eat meat if I wasn’t so adamant about running but I feel like I need it to keep my body strong and injury free. Anyway, I got an idea for the corn succotash after being on The Rachael Ray Show so I made a couple of modifications.  It’s…

My eats haven’t been too interesting

My eats haven’t been too interesting

I get a LOT of e-mails wanting to know what I’m eating. When I have more time, I cook REALLY good meals but I haven’t had much time so I’ve been eating really basic meals. I haven’t been cooking too much lately. If it’s been too late to cook anything we’ve picked up salads from Subway or just settled for whatever was in the fridge. I’ve really been on the search for something that is quick and easy to make and will last a couple of days. A couple of weeks ago I purchased some turkey sausage but never got…

Giveaway: Rubbermaid Produce Savers

Giveaway: Rubbermaid Produce Savers

I love my produce!  When we go grocery shopping every week the basket is filled with nothing but produce.  There are lots of great benefits of eating produce like eating real food, a healthier body and just being able to cook among many other things.  The bad thing about buying fresh produce is it will go bad and quickly if it’s not stored properly. I was constantly going to the store to get more produce mid week which can really be expensive.  It’s funny because people always tell us to eat healthy but healthy eating is very expensive.  Let’s stop…

Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Cauliflower Pizza Crust

I’m always on a constant search to find new ways to enjoy food…and get my husband to eat vegetables. This is the perfect recipe for both because the one thing I really miss in my life is pizza. Until now, we’ve been making pizzas on bagel thins or English muffins, but I worry about the carbohydrate intake. Needless to say, we don’t have those too often. The cauliflower pizza crust was something my husband was definitely weary of because he doesn’t do a lot of veggies. But I heard no complaints from him and he actually enjoyed it. Please remember…
