Five Things Friday #1

I know it’s not the first Five Things Friday I’ve done but I’m starting over to keep them a bit more organized.  I never know what to call them anyway so a number system will be best. It’s been a long week and I’m pretty sure I’m long overdue for a rest day. It will come.

My new project is Mom Works It Out. So I started a new blog about being a mom and every other part of lifestyle besides the health and fitness stuff. I fully understand that you are here because you heard our weight loss story. I don’t want to fill this blog with things that you may not be interested in. I want to give you the option to read about it, instead of just shoving it down your throat. If you want to check out my new blog and social media accounts, please do. I’ll be talking about more things than just eating, motivation and working out. It will be a complete life forum for me. Like, how Baby G is tugging on my arm as I’m trying to smash out a blog post really quick.

I’ve been working on my strength training. It’s amazing how much muscle mass I lost during pregnancy so it’s been my goal to get it back. I’ve been getting my butt up every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the past 6 weeks to go to Group Power. It’s paying off. Within two weeks I noticed a big difference and now I’m just trying to stay with the program. It’s really been helping with my running too. Small changes mean big steps forward! (FYI:  I just realized how dirty my mirror is in the bathroom.  Don’t judge me for that.)

Anyways, I think we all underestimate how important strength training is in our workout schedules.  It’s kind of always been an afterthought for me which is why I’ve been making it a priority lately.  Most days I’m only guaranteed one workout so sometimes Group Power is all I get.  It’s probably the most important workout I have all week.  There’s nothing sexy about it.  The calorie burn isn’t the same as doing high impact cardio but it’s a necessary part of my wellness plan.

Untitled The jogging stroller had a blow out the other day. We were a bit stranded on the street and a neighbor tried to help. I had to get to tube replaced and Graco ended up sending a new front wheel. Basically, I’m going to need to get a new air pump because the front wheel is so small. It’s hard to get a pump head to got in there.

I was super upset when I couldn’t put air in the tire because I like to go for walks in the afternoon if I’m not running. Most evenings I have Baby G by myself and it’s not like I can leave her at home. I was worried this was going to sideline me until we got a replacement part so I was eager to get this fixed.

I got a new water bottle for travel which has now become my new favorite thing. I purchased a 18oz Hydroflask and I’m in love. I’ve been using a Yeti cup forever but it’s hard to travel with. This Hydroflask can fit in the stroller/diaper bag and everywhere I need it to go. I’ve been using it with my workouts, too.

The sandwich craving was strong this week. I thought about going to the grocery store to just buy stuff to make sandwiches but I settled on Jason’s Deli roast beef. It’s such a simple thing but it’s so good! It was probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life…or maybe I was just hungry! Whichever it was, I ate it two days in a row.

Here are some things I’ve been digging this week.  What’s been on your radar this week?

Five Things Friday: self care edition

Five Things Friday: self care edition

Happy Friday!  It’s late on Friday but this is the first time I’ve been able to sit down and blog.  Maybe I should have got this post going when I up at 2 am this morning because I couldn’t sleep.  Anyway, I am here blogging about my Friday favorites. This week has been pretty good for me.  I managed to hit my workouts and did a double workout yesterday (because I missed my run on Wednesday).  All I have to say is, I’m too old for the double workouts, lol.  It’s something I use to do all the time but…

Forgotten Five Things Friday: Halo Top, LilleBaby and Kinedu

Happy Earth Day!  I wanted to get out and run this morning because I haven’t run in two weeks due to concentrating on returning to work at the gym.  I’m ready to get back outside and I thought Earth Day would be the best time to do it.  Well, life had other plans and I didn’t make my run.  It was just too warm for me to get out there.  I’ll try later because I’m not going to waste the day. I missed my Five Things Friday so I’m going to give them to you on Saturday today.  Normally, I…

Five Things Friday: Mom life, salads, Chicago Marathon and more

Happy Friday, all!  By the time you’re reading this Friday will be almost over. It’s time for the Five Things Friday, but first I have to tell you some things. I wanted to put this up earlier but I’ve been dealing with the mom life (aka, a screaming infant) all day long. I should have know it was going to be a long day when she woke up at 4am.  I hope everyone is having a great week.  Here are five things I’m digging this week: 1. Willie and I are on a podcast.  It’s finally our turn for the…

Five Things Friday: finally blogging edition

Five Things Friday: finally blogging edition

I feel like I’m sneaking to blog.  It’s in the wee hours of the morning but I need to get this in.  Last week I made the mistake of blogging about nonsense and then the baby woke up so I didn’t get to finish the post.  It’s sad, but I’m already wasting time.  Let’s get with it: Running.  I’m starting to get back into it.  I’ve gone back to it and things are so much better. Granted, I’m a wee bit slower (like almost 4 minutes a mile slower) than what I use to be, but I’ll get back there.…

Five Things Friday: tips to avoid food temptation

Five Things Friday: tips to avoid food temptation

Halloween just passed and we’re on the cusp of holiday season.  There will be comfort foods, cakes, pies and all types of goodies being shoved in our faces all day long.  From home to work to social gatherings, the holiday season has arrived but what does that mean if you’re on your weight loss journey or just trying not to over indulge. Every year I post something similiar because every year I feel like I learn a little bit more about how tempting some foods can be and sometimes those are the foods you just can’t stay away from.  The…

Five Things Friday: 5Qs about weight loss

Hello all! Happy Friday! Sorry about not having a blog up yesterday, I thought I scheduled a post but I guess I was wrong. That means I’m absent minded and it just left you absent. Have no fear, Angie is here with a new post for Friday. I enjoy doing the Five Things Friday thing but I thought I would change it up with a video this week. I am answering five questions about weight loss. The topic will change from week to week but if you have a question about anything, please feel free to ask me. It will…

Five Things Friday: Reasons you’ll enjoy indoor cycle

When I tell people I teach indoor cycle, most people tell me they aren’t ready for that class. “People come out of there really sweaty,” is the usual response. “It just seems so intense.” I hate the break it to you but yes it’s an intense exercise and all fitness activities make you sweat. I don’t think anyone should be intimidated by attending an indoor cycle/spinning class. It’s a great way to get the blood pumping and torch some calories as time literally flies by. It’s time for me to share the five reasons I think you’ll enjoy an indoor…

Five Things Friday: Things I Want To Try

Five Things Friday: Things I Want To Try

Welcome to this week’s edition of Five Things Friday.  I’m talking about the things I want to to try.  There’s nothing really outlandish going on here, but there is some interesting stuff on this list…well at least to me. I don’t know what has stopped me from trying these things, but something has.  Maybe I should get to the root of the problem or just skip that part and just start trying stuff. I won’t waste any more of your time, so I’ll just get to the list. 1. A zumba class. Technically, I’ve gone to a Zumba class BUT…

Five Things Friday: Learned on a road trip

Five Things Friday: Learned on a road trip

It’s late and it’s almost no longer Friday, but I’m going to make it just in time to post my five things Friday. I had a rough start to the day and realized I probably just needed a little break and some sleep.  I bailed on my long run this morning because I was tired. I knew I needed to get in the car to drive to see my very best friends today too so I made the smart decision to bail out on the run and go back home to sleep before leaving. It was a road trip and…

Five things Friday: videos and running shoes

Happy Friday!  It’s time for this week’s edition of five things Friday, but first I want to catch you up on some things, like my refrigerator. It’s always so promising at the beginning of the week.  We can’t find places to put stuff.  It’s always so full and inviting but organized at the same time. But come Friday morning, it starts to look a little sad.  I opened up the fridge this morning and thought it looked very empty.  At least there’s some oats in there for tomorrow morning.  The good news is, the fridge will be full again come…
